I agree. What is the motive? No one has claimed responsibility.

However they have really ""jumped the shark"" with this story publishing a number of stories that are nothing but the wildest speculation with no real data to back any of it up. I thought I was over reacting but this AM there was actually a article critical of their ""news reporting"" in the Washington Post accusing them of reporting stories that were totally off the grid as far as reliability goes. I am Very disappointed in them.
It's not about facts anymore. It's about scoop and ratings.

That we know of. A lot could be going on behind the scenes to negotiate an outcome to this situation. Just because the media exists doesn't mean everything needs to be shared with them. Sometimes transparency can be detrimental .
There have been lots of "incidents" that we knew nothing about until after the fact for a good reason. Hopefully, this will turn out to be one of them.

Wow and for the Washington Post, that bastion of journalistic, uh, whatever, to dis another medium's news reporting is really saying something... If the Post thinks it's bad then it's got to be really, really bad, given the level of bias and integrity they offer, in my opinion, of course...

Absolutely. News, even at the local network level, has become big business and they have all those hours after hours to fill...

Then why would the country of Malaysia be footing the bill for millions of dollars not only conducting a search, but continuing to expand the search field?
They are footing the bill for the search.

there's no claim of responsibility since it appears that they failed, assuming that the plane crashed.
