I don't know of any grocery store that offers a senior discount.  Probably because other shoppers would resent the idea of giving shoppers a discount just because they happened to have reached a particular birthday.  It's not like every or even most seniors in this area are living on a fixed income and need the help.  I never thought about but I don't see those types of discounts anymore.  At one time, they were common.    My hairdresser even stopped the 10% discount for seniors on Wednesdays.  Now everyone gets that 10% off for services, excluding color on a Wednesday.

@chrystaltree,Well your area is indeed fortunate, we actually have a senior food pantry, as many of our older people struggle to put food on the table. I really can't imagine that anyone would resent seniors getting a small discount on food, that would be so petty.

I doubt that anyone would resent a need based discount.  My point was that the assumption that a person turns 65 and automatically becomes poor just isn't true.  It's not true anywhere in this country.  Giving a discount to a young family who supports their children on two minimum wage jobs or single mom who works two jobs to put food on the table would be wonderful thing.  But I don't think giving a discount to a retired corporate executive and his wife who drive matching Cadillacs serves any purpose.

Fry's (AZ) -- 10% first Wednesday of the month  (however, they are high-priced compared to Walmart & Target)

Publix- 5% off every Wednesday for customers ages 60 and up.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

If our grocery stores in Fl. gave senior discounts they would go out of business - it's almost all seniors down here.

I don't believe so, but now I'm curious. Will have to ask at my local store.

No, just their regular store card for weekly sales.

Our Shop Rite also does 5% on Wednesdays. I have taken my mother a couple times and they give it to everybody...young and old..it isn't even mentioned. You see it come off your bill at the end...it was like five bucks for me...I was only picking up a few 'odds and ends..' you know how that goes...$100 later lol..

The Senior Population

Florida has a large and growing adult population. The State as a whole has a population approaching 19 million, and people over 60 make up nearly 23 percent of that population.
