My grocery store (Safeway) gives seniors a 10% discount the first Wednesday of the month.

5% senior discount on Tuesday's at Super Foodtown and 5% discount on Wednesday's at Shoprite.  I do my biggest orders at Shoprite so I do try to get there once a month on a Wednesday - the only problem is the place is loaded with old people - LOL!

I know, right ?

Tops promotes it heavily, so you don't have to ask, they just put something on your regular bonus card, and if your 60 , you're good to go.

On the first Tuesday of every month, folks 55+ are offered a 10% discount.  Very nice, but I wish it could be every Tuesday.

I don't know of any grocery store that offers a senior discount.  Probably because other shoppers would resent the idea of giving shoppers a discount just because they happened to have reached a particular birthday.  It's not like every or even most seniors in this area are living on a fixed income and need the help.  I never thought about but I don't see those types of discounts anymore.  At one time, they were common.    My hairdresser even stopped the 10% discount for seniors on Wednesdays.  Now everyone gets that 10% off for services, excluding color on a Wednesday.

@chrystaltree,Well your area is indeed fortunate, we actually have a senior food pantry, as many of our older people struggle to put food on the table. I really can't imagine that anyone would resent seniors getting a small discount on food, that would be so petty.

The only grocery store I know offers that discount is Harris Teater. I don't know if any other grocery store that offers a senior discount.
