As if food shopping isn't bad enough now, it's going to get worse. I live in NYC, I just heard that Stop & Shops in New York and New Jersey are going to limit the number of people allowed in the store at one time, the aisles will only be one way with arrows pointing to the direction. In New Jersey I heard the Governor say it is mandatory to wear a mask in public. Some places are taking people's temperatures before they are allowed in a store. It's getting to the point where I won't want to go shopping, it isn't worth it.

I think that makes total sense.

Have you used the online delivery services ? I have been using them since early March (the first moment i heard of the impending crisis, self - quarrenting, have not left the house). The delivery service is easy and no risk of getting the virus in the stores.

I agree with limiting the number of people in the store. Trader Joe's here in Chicago has been doing that and I think Jewel will start it also. But the other 2 restrictions are a bit extreme IMO.
As someone who lived in NYC for 50 years, I feel your pain. Good luck to you! Stay healthy and safe.

@Reever Three weeks wait around here for pick up or delivery.

That has been going on for quite some time where we are.

I don't know where you live, but in most larger areas, the delivery services are completely overwhelmed. They're booking several weeks out if they're booking at all and in many cases their shelves are as bare as the supermarkets from which they get their goods.

@Jordan2 The "one way" shopping is now pretty much everywhere in my area of PA. Masks are not yet required, but most people wear them, because the state strongly recommends it. There are distancing signs taped on the floors. And, good luck trying to reserve a pick up or delivery time. I have a cart load in our ShopRite store's website, but there are no pickup times or delivery times available. It usually takes an hour to get on the website. We figure we'll just try to go out to the store the week after next.

I did an Instacart order today from Publix for my mom who's in south Fl. and it arrived two hours after I placed the order. She was pleased with the service and we'll do it again.
As for myself, there is a farm market near my house in PA that offers a lot of variety of food. I placed an order for meat, produce and prepared foods. They took all of my information over the phone and all I had to do was drive up for curbside pick up.
I'll still need to eventually pick up some items at the supermarket and I haven't been there for over two weeks. I've been checking Amazon for paper items and every so often if I get lucky something that was unavailable is suddenly in stock for a short while.

I continue to think it's absolutely abysmal leadership at every level that continues to focus so exclusively on the virus itself, when it's clear there's not much to be done about it other than to let it run its course, but has yet to do ANYTHING to address the fact that we the people cannot get what we need in the way of food and daily essentials. We all realize this is a mammoth issue, but it seems by now that some entity would be empowered to help address the dire need for goods required just to get through the day. Continuing to look so exclusively at the big picture is doing nothing but overwhelming everyone. Break this monster down into smaller pieces and start dealing with those that can be dealt with, like getting food into stores...
