Re: Grandfather Charged

[ Edited ]

The family's attorney wants you to believe that the Grandfather had zero culpability.

As if the child levitated up onto the railing by herself.

It's all about the benjamins for this family.  They don't want the grandfather charged, even if he isn't convicted, because they don't want to muddy the waters for the lawsuit.  They want all the blame to be placed on the cruise ship line.  They want cash and lots of it.

How many that think this is a tragic accident and the grandfather shouldn't be charged think the cruiseline should be held responsible?

I still cannot understand how he couldn't have figured out the window was open?  Other people have said the window is high up off the floor.  Why would he be holding a child up to a window that high?

I could understand RCL being responsible if this was a ground level window but not for a window this high.  I just don't get it.

There have been so many various reports of what really happened.  It was initially reported he was tossing the child up and down and that witnesses told him to stop doing that and even went to get security and by the time they came back, the child had fallen.

I think the grandfather made a terrible mistake. Unless he has some sort of horrible history, I don't think he should be charged criminally. However, if his own family wanted to sue him, I think that would be appropriate.

Was the grandfather drinking at the time this happened? I read he was tossing the baby around prior to the accident.

A video of the incident was mentioned on the nightly news from one of the cameras on the cruise ship.  It was after viewing this videotape that the prosecution decided to press charges against the grandfather, so it must be pretty clear what exactly did happen to cause the accident.

I assume after all is said and done with the prosecution's court case, the video will then be released to the public.  As morbid as it seems, I'd be interested to see what the heck happened.

Of course the family objects to the charges as it is gonna strongly hurt their case of it being the cruise line's fault.

No winners here.

I am not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, it was a terrible unintended tragedy. The family is understandably grief stricken. I cannot imagine the anguish they are experiencing. On the other hand, the grandfather's judgement was an unintended negligent act. . I just don't know if he should go to prison. He will be a PRISONER in his mind FOREVER.

He may not go to jail....even if this video shows him putting her on the railing seated or tossing her in the air and so on before he either lost his grip on her or what.  Perhaps it will be something else besides jail....like probation.  I just think the truth of what happened is what needs to come out in all of this...what does that video show.  I don't truly want to see it...surely they can write out in a article what it shows.

I can barely read about this tragic accident. I can’t imagine how this would not rip the heart out of a grandparent if they were involved in the death of their grandchild,
