When i was a teen our washer and dryer were in a creepy basement. I pulled out a load of sheets from the dryer and held them to my nose to enjoy that fresh, clean smell and discovered a bat in my face. I screamed like there was a zombie attack. My guess is it came in through the dryer vent, drawn to the warm air in the middle of a frigid winter. Not sure if the outside opening had a screen missing or what, but my mom made dad fix it pronto. It might be something to check if you leave the dryer door open after using. I still look at every dryer load before pulling it out. Shudders.

You might want to let neighbors know, or if you have a church nearby with others living in your neighborhood, because it might have been someone's pet that got trapped. It's really hard losing a cat and not knowing if it got into a car and traveled too far away or what happened. Not knowing why your cat disappeared is hard for years to some.

@Bird mama You bet it was, I'm used to handling situations on my own, so it was extra nice to have him step in. This is a family business, ( their dad was my parent 's plumber). They do electrical, plumbing and heating, and always come when you call. To those who can't believe I didn't know, again my 1840 's basement is creepy, and I avoid it when I can. I will try and do better in the future.

Maybe you have ghosts down there and that's why it's creepy.

I would have felt sad for the cat... dying all alone.

It was nice of your plumber to remove it for you.

Oh that's sad, nice of the heating man to take the poor thing away.  I'm surprised it didnt make noise down there.

When my DH and I were young we lived in kind of a high crime rate area in Chicago.  In the middle of the night we kept hearing banging and a basement doorknob turning. Called the police...bunch of them went down there guns drawn. They found a cat!  They asked us if we wanted them to shoot it??!  I said of course not,why would I want that?  This cat made alot of noise trying to get out.  I'm glad mine got out.
