Giving away a Christmas tree

I recently, I offered free a 10 ft Christmas tree (local online classifieds).  Someone called, wanted it, and I offered to deliver in my pickup truck, since it was 4 large boxes that would not fit in a car.

She was to email me her address and time for Friday delivery.  Never heard from her.  I figured, OK, maybe she changed her mind.

Late Friday, I got an email asking about Saturday.

I had other things going on today, and, again, offered to deliver on Sunday or Monday.  Or, she could stop by Saturday and pick it up.

No response.

While it's not a crisis or anything, I just find the behavior puzzling.  If you want something and it's free, and the person is going to deliver it, what's the problem?

Even if Sunday or Monday wouldn't work, at least respond.

Why is that so hard for some to do?

Re: Giving away a Christmas tree

It's very nice & generous of you to not only give it away but to deliver it as well.

People can often be difficult to understand.  If It were me I would be thanking you and responding.

Re: Giving away a Christmas tree

After this weekend I would put one of the four boxes out for each of the next four trash pickup days.

Is there a church, school, nursing home, etc. that might be more appreciative of your large tree donation?

@haddon9

It is hard to understand.  I was specific that it was NOT a new tree, that it was big, and assembled branch by branch, not in sections.

I said I would bring all the lights too.  The tree just got too much to decorate every year, but it was still lovely and....free to a good home  Cat Happy

I know one thing, I'm not dragging it back to the second floor of the garage.  If I don't get it off my truck in a few days, it's outta here!

Especially since I've posted it two other times for giveaway.  I think most people just cannot fit it into their homes.

Free tree AND free delivery?!? You're truly a kind person @Witchy Woman. People baffle me, for sure. Hope she gets it together and gets back to you soon.

@queendiva

There might be, but how to find them?

I've posted two previous times on our local "free cycle" with no takers.  So, posting on the online classified was a last ditch effort to unload the thing Cat Happy

Try donating it to Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity or Goodwill, the money they sell it for will do some good & the buyer will enjoy it like you have. Good Luck.

I second the suggestion of donating it!  We donated an artificial tree to Goodwill.....happily accepted and sold quickly.  Win....Win for all!

How very nice of you to give away a Christmas tree. If she doesn't respond by the end of the weekend, how about contacting a local nursing home, assisted living facility, local hospital, etc.

Ordinarily, I would agree with both of you.   And, I will talk to my local thrift store and give Salvation Army a call tomorrow.

However, this thing is a behemoth.  We have 10 ft. ceilings, so it wasn't an issue.  But, most homes will not be able to accommodate the thing.

Not to mention it is in 5 very large boxes.  It is unlikely someone is going to want it sight unseen without seeing it assembled.

Nevertheless, I will see if I cannot give it away before dumping it.
