I also sent my mother individually sealed meats and other foods hoping it would make her meal prep easier. I was told she didn't like it. So, I started giving her gift cards to the grocery where she shops. She told me she gave them to my brother.
Some people are just ungrateful and hurtful.

I hope you no longer gift your mother then, @Flyer98

I was always taught that a gift was to be accepted gracefully. I also was taught that when you give a gift, it is just that, a gift, the recipient may do whatever they wish with it.

@Sage04Same here. That was one of the funniest episodes of Raymond. The parents carried on like the fruit was going to take over the house. My advice to the OP is to stop buying your MIL a gift. Tell your husband, her son, that you are done. From now on if he wants his mother to have a Christmas present he should buy it.
There is no excuse to be rude or unappreciative when receiving a gift that one does not want or like. The only response is to say thank you for the thoughtful gift. That's how I was brought up and that's what I taught my children. It doesn't take a lot of effort to be gracious and to use good manners.

@occasionalrainwhen I first read the OP's Post I thought of an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" when Raymond enrolled his parents in the "Fruit of the Month Club". Marie complained and complained and asked Raymond to make it stop because she can go to the market and buy her own fruit.

I would consider myself done as far as gifting the MIL.

@tansyI still give her gifts. And, she always tells me how it doesn't meet her expectations. But, now, I just tell her I don't expect her to like it.
I've decided I have no control over her ungrateful attitude so I choose to just realize that I've done all I can.

@homedecor1wrote:I feel her pain if she doesn't have room in freezer. I know every year we get gifted a box from Omaha Steaks full of steaks, burgers, potatoes, etc. first off it's not good and secondly although I'm not appreciative we don't eat the things sent. Well, we do like the apple tarts😉.
I can buy better quality meats at the food store. Last year they gifted us beef wellington with 3 side dishes -- they were mushy and terrible.
I have asked the gifting person to not order this year although we appreciate the thought.
Sometimes being honest is the best policy!
@homedecor1I fail to see how getting something you don't want or like is a mark against the receiver. Nobody has to be given something they don't want--especially year after year.

Ask people what they would like. IF they would like. Don't get people stuff they don't want. It's simple. If you ask and they say don't get them something--don't. Get a nice card, and say if you change your mind let me know.

Stop buying stuff people don't want for them! There is NO point to it. It just forces them to buy something you don't want for them. Maybe for spite! ![]()

Agree with your comment about it not being about being able to fit in the fridge.
.
When someone gives you a gift, even if you hate it and know you'll never use it, or you'll throw it out right after the giver leaves, you don't act like a petulant child (unless you are one...here it appears the person is 80 and should know better by now).
.
Manners. Another bygone art.
