Re: Getting Work Done on house not body! Rant!

In a bar at 11 a.m.? NO WAY would I let him touch my house.

Glad you fired him. Doesn't matter if you "know" him and the g/f, means nothing when it comes to business.

drinking at 11 am? Find someone else - someone more reliable that actually wants to work.

@dulwich

Do you have a "finish by date" in your contract?

@chrystaltree  Update - he just called and said he really wants to do  the job, has purchased materials, and will be here tomorrow 8 a.m.

@dulwich Sure he wants the job NOW. I would NOT trust a guy who is in a bar at 11 in the MORNING when he was supposed to be meeting with you or at your house.

If you DO employ him, put this in the contract:

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE and a date it must be completed by.

I have seen Judge Judy and Judge Marilyn Milian tell this to people REPEATEDLY.

Without that clause, this clown can take his own sweet time.

IS HE INSURED? YOU NEED TO SEE PROOF. I really think hiring him is a big mistake...

@hckynut  We have 10 days left here before we move - builder said work we wanted done - mostly carpentry, would take about 2 days and quoted us for job.  He said he would do it last Thurs & Fri - who knows the wonder of it all!  Not too small a job as our quote was $1,600 - and he is only taking small jobs now.

We had that with a painter so found another one. Was a little worried about his laid back style, but it turned out okay.

@Love my grandkids  Yes he is fully insured gets all the permitsetc., if required.  He worked 6 mos on this house when we bought it and did great work.  Over the years he moved his business out of the area and only recently returned to our town where we were delighted as he was - and is? - a good builder and he knows the house.

DH  was very surprised to see him in the bar this a.m - who knows what happens to people over the years be assured in this town all will be revealed!

Then you have absolutely nothing to complain about.
