I think it is so sad but I really do believe that he considers his life as mission accomplished.I hope I am wrong and he gets well again though.

Sorry to hear you have had a rough year but glad there is light at the end of that tunnel.  And you are so right.....why doesn't that tunnel ever get shorter, instead of longer??????    

I took an early retirement last summer.  Didn't know how I would deal with not working, but surprised myself with how much I have loved having my own time!  

Take care and here's to hoping the tunnel gets shorter and shorter each day!

My son and I were just recalling the 3 couples that we personally know that died very close together.  One of the couples was 84 years old and had been married for 66 years.  They died a month apart.  The other couples died about 2 months apart.  When I saw Mr. Bush at Barbara Bush's funeral on Saturday, I said to myself that he would be right behind her in leaving this Earth!   Sad but true.

My Dad died 4 days after my Mom. I swear he was holding on because of her. He had been hospitalized with sepsis and pnemonia. After he heard my Mom died, he gave up fighting to live.

Hope President George H.W. Bush improves.

Prayers for peace and comfort for our dear President Bush.  He lost the love of his life in Barbara and I can't image what a tremendous effect this has had on him.  Most certainly that includes not only emotional but physical turmoil.

He has seemed so weak, and fragile for a couple years .  Probably the Parkinson's.  But he radiates such joy in his smile. No matter what political bent, I think all agree he is a gentle but determined soul, with such a kind and humerous heart.  He and Barbara really are great, humble, servants. In a world so divided, they remain a light of a life well lived!

you could always see great love, respect and admiration flow between the two of them.. OMG, to be married to someone for 73 years, dedicate themselves to their country, their ideals, their family with such gusto is an asset to me!  I admire how humbly they lived ..born into great privilege and wealth, they chose to give to others.  Not out of obligation, but because they wanted to.

I hear this a lot.  I am reminded of a couple in our City.  They died a few days of each other. At 94 and 97.   They were leaders in our community, and both were born an raised here. They had their lives here!  We are a small town, when they married,our city wasn't a city, but a town of 263!  They were involved in community til they both took ill.  They got around until the last year of their life. First he ailed, she helped him. Then she fell.  Both were bed ridden the last few months of their life. We would visit them at the home they bought when first married..  You walked in, and there were 2 hospital beds in the living room.  The beds were close so they could hold hands.  It was something to see, these 2 older life partners holding hands in hospital beds!!!

She died, and a few days later he followed.  They just needed to be there for each other.
