I like to follow what I can of the archeological digs in the Holy Land. I know for sure there would be a major uprising if someone wanted to construct a large telescope, and all that was needed to go with it, on sites where Christ lived or walked or died or rose again.

Hi Noel,

Completely agree.

Here is my post from #28

"I'd be willing to bet if you put up one of these telescopes next to the Statue of Christ in Brazil there would be an uproar.

I'll bet if you put a telescope dead center in the garden tomb there would be an uproar.

It seems insulting that some only see it important when it comes to something that is scared to their belief or faith."

I hope you have a happy and peaceful Easter.

Only Christian sites matter when making a point?

Edited to ask instead:

Why are only Christian sites given as examples of being decimated?

Are the Little Sisters of the Poor on a rampage?

Sincere Question: What are the native Hawaiians asking for?

I guess I need to watch the news more but truly haven't seen this so I'm curious.

they are asking that they not build a telescope to study space on the sacred mountain...........they believe that is where their god lives.........it's an old volcano........also the place where leaders that had died were placed to rest (in the volcano).......it's sacred and has been sacred to them for ions.........................raven

I have a question.

I'm not being snarky, just asking an honest question.

Since the NA's, were here long before white man, couldn't all of America be considered "sacred grounds"?{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Plaid Pants............not everywhere is considered sacred.......now having said that, I will say they hold the land sacred and something to be looked after.....but spiritually sacred places are another matter........the Black Hills.......Yosemite Valley.......as well as other areas and burial grounds are spiritually sacred

What will always be a part of what is considered sacred is......their god lives there or it was the spot of their creation as a people

Now that's not too far placed from the respect given churches......or cemeteries and the graves within.......or for that matter, the womb of a woman....all represent...where god lives........where life starts...............................................raven

I would be honked as a Christian....that is true....but I would also be honked if I were a native of that land. Please don't lump all Christians into one big ball. While we many not agree with some beliefs...and they may not agree with us.... sacred ground is sacred ground and, in my opinion, should be honored. Oh boy, now I will probably get it from both sides. {#emotions_dlg.huh}

I edited this to say that, while their are some Christians here who make a big ado about the smallest things ....we are not all like that. Most of us love our fellow man and feel hurt when they are hurt and many of us hate the way they have been treated....red, yellow, black, or white!!

jubilant -

Raven and SNS are not lumping all Christians together, they both know I am a Christian, which is how I know darn well how we would feel if others wanted to destroy the street where Jesus walked on what we remember as Palm Sunday, or any other of our holy sites.

Happy Easter, jubilant Smile

The area is sacred ground to the Hawaiians, period. To comment on what Raven has written - many churches of old were intentionally put on sacred grounds here in the West to force the creeds and to insult the beliefs of the Native Americans.
