I like to follow what I can of the archeological digs in the Holy Land. I know for sure there would be a major uprising if someone wanted to construct a large telescope, and all that was needed to go with it, on sites where Christ lived or walked or died or rose again.

I would be honked as a Christian....that is true....but I would also be honked if I were a native of that land. Please don't lump all Christians into one big ball. While we many not agree with some beliefs...and they may not agree with us.... sacred ground is sacred ground and, in my opinion, should be honored. Oh boy, now I will probably get it from both sides. ${#emotions_dlg.huh}$

I edited this to say that, while their are some Christians here who make a big ado about the smallest things ....we are not all like that. Most of us love our fellow man and feel hurt when they are hurt and many of us hate the way they have been treated....red, yellow, black, or white!!

Raven and SNS are not lumping all Christians together, they both know I am a Christian, which is how I know darn well how we would feel if others wanted to destroy the street where Jesus walked on what we remember as Palm Sunday, or any other of our holy sites.

Happy Easter, Noel! I know Raven and SNS aren't like that. I probably shouldn't have said anything. I have been a little worked up about all the Christians in other countries being persecuted and no one saying anything about that. I should have stuck to the subject at hand....which does upset me too. Sorry to all. I think I jumped the gun here and went off in the wrong direction. Thanks, Noel for bringing it to my attention. Hi Jubilant,

I'm sorry if you felt "all Christians" were being lumped into one group. That was not my intention. I have the utmost respect for many Christians and their teachings (I think you'd be shocked to know just how much respect I have for them. I'd take up for them in a heart beat) and yes, there are a few I have little to no respect for. There are good and bad in all groups, faiths, beliefs, traditions, etc.

I get upset when I see a temple or church destroyed. I get upset when I see holy or scared land or artifacts destroyed.

What genuinely irritates me is when someone feels their temples/churches/holy or scared land or artifacts are more important to protect than the next groups.

I am confused. IF the mountain is already home to observatories and telescopes, etc. why is one more telescope a problem? It seems as if they should never have been able to put these observatories there in the first place?

I'm not disputing the issue just asking for clarification.

Scottie: I am no authority on this, but from what I have read, they want to put this telescope at a place they call Mauna Kea. It is the burial grounds of some of their most sacred and revered ancestors. It is a place where they go for sanctuary.

scotttie, I addressed this w-a-y-y-y-y back in post #27, hoping it would spark a conversation about why it's a problem now, but it wasn't a problem in the 1950's when the first observatories were built? Or, maybe it was a problem, but we didn't have the internet back then? Here's my post #27:
