I put food on a paper towel, paper plate or regular plate. My counters are clean, but I just don't put the bread on the counter. Probably got it from my momma.

I don't think its the end of the world if you put yours on your counter though. Different strokes for different folks. You aren't doing anything wrong.

I NEVER put food directly in a counter. Plates are clean and easy to wash. A cutting board that's not made of wood is fine.
I don't wipe my counters with sponges, they can have bacteria in them.

I use a plate for a sandwich, even when I'm packing it for the road. I make the sandwich on the plate, cut it on the plate, too. Then if I'm taking it with me, I put it into a zip loc.

I never thought too much about it, I just do it.

Was your sister supposed to stand over the sink and eat the sandwich? Or your kitchen trash? My kitchen counters are clean. So is my kitchen sink. I would never make a sandwich straight on the kitchen counter. Or in the sink! My plates go thru a sanitize cycle. My countertop does not.

I never put food on a counter that is goingto be eaten afterward.

I will put carrots that will next be washed, peeled, and steamed.

I would never put a piece of bread on the counter top.

I have a degree that includes food science, although, my love is the other side-design.

HADDON:

Funny, but I hadn't thought of that!

Yes, it helps to keep counters clean by using a paper plate or paper towel on the counter while preparing food and slicing bread.

Why make a mess (said in a nice way, and referring to myself) on a counter, and then have to clean it all up.

Not in all my years have I placed food on the counter plus I had a drying mat that is down and I don't put food on that either.

Esp not after finding ants on my counter and in the sink last night! Yuck!

That seems so strange. Can't make a sandwich directly on the counter. Never saw anyone do that either.
