Just hit me . What if somebody's medical supplies were in there ? prescriptions, daily sanitary items for the older folks, etc.

That could really be dire-- health needs, etc.

In my area, the problems cut across almost all the delivery services -- Ironically for this board, the one service I haven't heard the neighbors complain about has been the USPS.  Mail delivery often hppens after dark, but that has been true for at least a decade!

@millieshops There is the added complication with USPS of federal offense and having the Postal Inspectors after your azz.  They are serious about that stuff.

It's not just the county sheriff who's after you.  It's the Feds. I think it's 5 years and up to $250,000.  Plus there may be state laws as well.

I hope they throw the whole package at them!

@millieshops I think it is indicative of a general lax attitude about responsibility and work ethic in this country.  Postal employees have a steady job and good benefits and a setting that encourages people who take their job seriously and see long term employment as a goal.

I think that makes a huge difference in the type of employee they hire and retain.

This makes me sick.  To think what FedEx charges for deliveries and as someone mentioned the benefits that their workers receive, it's all mind boggling.

Perhaps there was theft of a certain package or packages and the rest was trashed to hide the crime.

That's awful. I also just heard about a delivery person, can't remember which company, who was caught stealing packages. Officials found electronics, jewelry and other things in the person's place of residence which were stolen by the person.

Why would they do this? Was the stress from trying to deliver so many packages under allocated time constraints too much? Or were they just vindictive? One scanned package will tell them who last had it in their possession.

@On It    Looks like the boxes have been ripped open so I'd say theft.  I wonder if Mr. Sheriff is looking for the driver.  Deliveries may be empty boxes.

I have had only two packages stolen ever.  In 30 years only two--the same day.  One was a very very expensive fountain pen that was a present to me and came from a jewelry store, and the same day some dishes from e-bay.

I was home right after they were delivered and they were gone.  I feel sure someone from UPS system knew the value of the pen package and assumed it was jewelry.  I think some crook in the chain to alert theives happens more often than you'd think.

@SoonerLater    Were the items replaced by the vendors?

From what I hear on the news, retail theft must be out of sight these days.  How about a gang of 80 storming department stores or roaming gangs going state to state stealing expensive tools from big box hardware stores?

What I never get about this - Don't they know to which driver the parcels were scanned out for delivery?  Therefore, when they're found, you'd know who ditched them.  No?

I guess if you're going to do this you need to put them where they won't be found.  Furthermore, it looked like some of them were open.  Also, if a given driver left the hub and, by coincidence (not!), many of the parcels in his or her truck didn't get delivered, the finger would already be pointed at them.

I don't know.  I don't do crimes, but if I did I know I'd do a better job.  Smiley Very Happy
