From what I hear on the news, retail theft must be out of sight these days. How about a gang of 80 storming department stores or roaming gangs going state to state stealing expensive tools from big box hardware stores?
@Kachina624 Yes crime pays big time nowdays. Actually I filed a police report and American Exchange reimbursed me the money. But it was a special edition pen and a low number on it and I was very disappointed.
I will bet the thieves were p.o.'d too because unless you knew where to sell it it was just a fountain pen and who would want that? And some old dishes!

Looks like every box is opened, either ripped open or just sliced down the middle to take a peek. Many are empty. I wonder if it is one person or a group of thieves in different trucks and that is the dumping site. That could complicate who is the culprit.
This time of year all the delivery companies hire many, many temp delivery people. I thought they at least did background checks on them but apparently not.
If it is only one person they will trace it back pretty quickly to a driver, but that driver might be long gone by now. Get hired, pack your truck, steal all the stuff and quit. Criminals are dumb nowadays. Some crimes you just shake your head and wonder how they think they will get away with it.
As far as the connection between Amazon and USPS is that Amazon was in so much trouble last year getting packages to people in time for Christmas, and failing to in a lot of deliveries, this year they said they were using all delivery services beyond their own trucks to stay ahead of getting overwhelmed again.
They hired thousands of people to temp work for Amazon, but they also contracted with USPS and private companies so their delivery problem would not re-occur this year.
They are not off to a great start for me. So far they have lost 2 packages and reshipped them. Another order said shipped and the delivery date was 2 weeks away! Ok, fine, it is not Christmas yet, I'll wait. Next time I checked the order to track it, it then said it was "delayed", then in 2 days it went to "cancelled". My fault. Not Prime, it was a third party seller.
I got shopping early this year and the winners for quick delivery, so far, is Target, Walmart and HSN. They have been speed shipping.

Best way to deter the smash and grabbers is to do away with that stupid law that says you can't be prosecuted if you steal less then 950 bucks worth of stuff! Stealing is stealing. Who do you think pays for all this company loss? We folks who pay money for what we buy.
I saw on TV where there now only going to let in a few people at a time in the stores and they also are bringing in barricades made out of some kind of rolled colored barb wire in big coils and surround the building with it. This country needs to get tough. I would take it a step further and that would be the end of the looters.

USPS is the worst; we sometimes don't get our mail until close to 10 pm. I have Amazon Prime and my next day deliveries are taking three days now.

@MorningLover ... Wow! This is something else! A bunch of them look like QVC's blue boxes! 📦
About a year ago a newly-hired postal worker was found to have several hundred pieces of mail in the trunk of his car! When asked why were they there, he replied something like "I was too tired to deliver the rest." "Why didn't you take them back to your place of work?" "...because l thought l would get in trouble for not delivering all of it." Ummm... They showed a picture of the inside of his car trunk...hundreds of pieces of mail that were mailed several months earlier! Wow...just Wow!!

This reminds me of a "Seinfeld" episode where Newman (mail carrier) decided not to deliver the mail and hid them where he thought no one could fined them.
Jerry decided to help him deliver the mail and that's when the customers found out because Jerry was always on time.

I read about this story earlier today. The pictures that I have seen, I just assumed since they were thrown off a bridge into a ravine that they were busted open. Call me clueless but I am leaning more towards some driver just being overwhelmed and not having time to deliver all of the packages.
With that said I would not be surprised if it was some sort of crime ring. (Sigh)
I purchased my last two Christmas gifts from Amazon this morning. I have two gift cards left to purchase, and I am finished with all of my Christmas shopping. I just don't like to deal with the craziness during the month of December.
UPS, USPS, FEDEX, AMAZON it's about to get real crazy.

What's Amazon got to do with just plain daily USPS mail ?
Guess I'm missing something here is our regular letters and stuff held hostage by what Amazon and people's packages do.
I found out that a lot of businesses and vendors on Ebay use Amazon as their delivery service....interesting.....

It sounds like the driver had had enough and threw it all off the bridge. What was the last straw?

Latest Update: FedEx driver who dumped packages in ravine no longer working there.
Blount County Sheriff says investigators have spoken with security personnel for Tennessee based FedEx and identified a driver. The driver’s name wasn’t released, and the Sheriff did not indicate whether any charges were possible.
FedEx released the following statement Monday afternoon:
“The security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority and we are committed to treating our customers’ packages with the utmost care.
In addition to cooperating with law enforcement, we have reviewed this situation and can confirm that the individual involved is no longer providing service on behalf of FedEx Ground.
We regret the inconvenience this situation has caused and appreciate our customers’ understanding throughout the package recovery process.
Where possible, recovered packages are being delivered to the intended recipients. In the event of a damaged shipment, we will make every effort to work with the affected shippers to reach a resolution."
