I agree. I believe people are still unsure why the government is making these available.
If you feel sick, the test will tell you if its safe to go out in public. Imagine feeling sick and thinking you're going to go sit in a docs office to get tested? The doc doesn't want a possible covid infection in the office. The doc will tell you to home test first. That's why you need a home test.
I play the "Pollen or Covid?" game every morning. My husband has chosen not to mask, so that's increased MY risk as well as his. So today, I'm testing before I see my mom, because my head is stuffy and my throat hurts. That's why I have home tests.
I wish people would use their common sense. If you think this disease is a joke and you're not concerned about infecting others, or you cant figure out why you would ever need them, leave the tests for those who are serious.

It just gives the whiners something else to whine about.

Be sure to read up on that one before you take it. It has been widely known that taking that Pfizer pill can initially make you feel better, but in some people they get rebound, even worse Covid. That's not very encouraging for a pill that's supposed to alleviate the symptoms.

@JamandBread home kits aren't all that accurate. They produce a lot of false negatives. If they give you a positive, that is very reliable, a negative is not.
When I was ill and needed to be tested, I called my doctor. They put a test out in the vestibule and I went back to my car, took the test, deposited my sample back in the vestibule and they sent it out for testing. I never sat inside an office and I was never told to test at home first. It turns out I was negative.
However, a few weeks later I became sick again and did test at home and was positive. I didn't even bother to contact my doctor or anyone else. I stayed home the required amount of time and went back to work. When I had Covid, I knew I had Covid. Although my symptoms were similar to cold symptoms, they were different and I just knew. So it was no surprise when I tested positive.
I personally won't be ordering any tests at this time because I still have the ones I received last time plus I have 4 other test kits I got for free from the library.

What I took from those posts was that the posters ordered them knowing they themselves wouldn't use them, but we're willing to get the extras for people who did. But then it appeared no one wanted the extras.

@eadu4 wrote:@Iwantcoffee With all due respect I ordered mine because I was required to test or lose my job. They then cancelled the requirement and I was stuck with tests that no one wanted. The test is for "covid only" so not sure about your reference to "other illnesses" and they are dated but in "theory" can be used beyond the expiration date. No one I know wanted them or needed them anymore since no one I know has been "sick" from this. If you have no symptoms why would you test yourself? Which is why mine got tossed. They expired and no one wanted them. But if someone I knew wanted more I'd order some and give them mine.
You do know that you can have the virus and be asymptomatic right? People can use the home tests if they have been exposed to someone who has the virus.

@Jk9 I agree - and as someone well beyond 65 and even 75, I appreciate your caution.
As for the government, like all of us in our own lives - government is unlikely to perfect, but we can all do something. Doing nothing is a sure road toward catastrophe whether we're talking disease or any of the other huge issues all over the world.
Earlier today, I read the feed regarding North Korea 's government choices regarding its lack of healthcare and its food insecurity. Hate to imagine the headlines we'd see if the real details were posted!
