Do you know that your grocery stores can sell expired food? I sure didn't. Today, there was a lot of boxed food really cheap. All was expired. The manager informed me by law, they can sell expired food
Now I realize that some foods wouldn't hurt you but what about those that would make you sick.
How do you feel about this law by the FDA?

I think that if they CAN sell expired food, that it had better be cheap!

I use lots of food products beyond their sell-by date. That's not a use-by end date. Right now I'm 72 and I expect to make another 20 years or more following that same kind of choice. I wouldn't use a can that has swollen, a product that changed colors, and so forth, but otherwise, a few months beyond expiration for non-perishables doesn't concern me. I care more about dates on dairy products, frozen foods, meats, eggs - that type of product, but I don't see my grocery stores selling those beyond the sell-by date anyway.
BTW- when I first started to buy groceries, I don't think we had dates on much of anything. Certainly they were no big deal. Besides, what percentage of food poisoning comes because of expirations? I think almost none. Most poisoning come from improper handling well WITHIN expiration dates.

The grocery stores around here mark things that are expiring that day down by 40%-50% to sell the item. The expiration date is the last day that the store can have the food on the shelf, it doesn't mean the food instantly spoils that day. Depending on what it is, I'll buy multiples of the item & freeze them for future use. I've bought organic greens that were good for a week after their expiration date.

I'm going to check with our local health dept. I have seen lunchmeat over a month expired. They were selling boxed noodles that I'm sure wouldn't hurt you.
But I have found ""Miracle Whip"" that was expired several months. I think that would make you sick.
I really just can't believe this can happen.

I saw some crumpets in the deli of a large grocery store that were covered in mold/ I pointed them out to the manager and he said they would be pulled right away....a week later they were still there....I no longer shop there.
