My grown children text to my email all the time. I refuse to get into these phone contracts so I have a prepaid smart phone, thus is why they text to my email.
My daughter does it more than my son. i usually talk to my son via the phone more than my daughter. Sometimes I get mad and tell them I have typeitis from typing back and forth too (lol) and then we talk via phones.
But when i am out I dont have my cellphone on. When Im out I am out with my husband and or friends and family, so I dont need to be blabbing or texting on a cellphone!!!!
Also my teen and tween granddaughters all text and use snap chat and instagram too. (Snap chat, you make short videos, which frankly I think is dumb! And instagram they just post pictures. Texting is the real communication. My grandkids all stopped using facebook long ago. They said facebook is so yesterday! lol.
As far as me, I email a lot but am also on facebook and instagram.

I only have a cell phone to make phone calls (like 2 or 3 a year). It's not a smart phone, and although it has a camera feature I can probably count on both hands how many times I've used it. I get a bare bones cell phone plan for $100 a year. I do NOT text. I won't text. I have a friend that keeps sending me these paragraphs of text which are impossible to retrieve. E-mail me or we don't communicate. Or call me if it's that important.
And then there are the people that only communicate via the "chat" on Facebook. Arggggh!

My 13 year old and her friends refuse to use email. I barely use it in my personal life as well. However in the working world, my company uses email every day, all day, to communicate, share information, send attachments, etc. Granted most companies also have an online/social presence, but to get work done efficiently, email is still necessary.

I rarely text but when I do it's limited to two or three lines. If I get a text from my kids and/or grandkids I answer it, again two or three lines.
Longer than that, I email. A few paragraphs.
Longer than that or complicated, I use the phone.
I have Facebook but only use it to post family photos or to wish someone a happy birthday.

Interesting conversation! I text but have only recently started. What I find is if you want to talk to anyone younger than 40, you get the fastest reply by texting. People text so much now that this age group rarely check their emails. So, if you want a quick answer, text or call. Texting is certainly more 'instant' than email. LM
