I am 51. I email my dad and step mom as that is what they like. If that is down - I will post a FB Message to them LOL..They do have a cell and will occasionally text but not their perferred method.
I text everybody else and vice versa. We too have been know to send a text instead of screaming through the house lol..
I love texting..My two sisters and I do a group text every morning.
I love the new technology and the ability to text. Worried about the kids..etc..send a quick text..want to pick something up..quick text....etc!!

ONE EXAMPLE WHY TEXTING IS GREAT:
We had a nasty storm this morning, and literally less than five minutes after I woke up, the power went out, which also means no house phone.
I texted our daughter at work to let her know, she texted back with a copy of the PGE notice that they knew and estimated power would be on in less than a couple of hours, luckily they were true to their word.
Luckily, I am so ready for power down. I bought a whole bunch of lanterns and pocket flashlights for us all two months ago when we knew El Nino would be bad, have a battery run radio handy and my new iPhone which does work during a power out. DD gave DH and I both super chargers for Christmas plus others small enough to carry in a pocket.
DH went to our neighborhood coffee house for hot coffee and pastries for breakfast so we didn't have to open the frig. For some odd reason, their power never goes out and they have WiFi. We are very friendly with them and they let us know earlier that any time we have a power out, we can use theirs, even sit for hours if we need to use our iPads. Love them.

If possible, I will text.
One feature I really like about texting is that it can be immediate, or not. If I receive a text, I can answer it right then, or wait till I have more time. Same when I send: I don't expect an immediate response (as with a call). I LOVE texting and the 'share your location' feature, especially when my adult children are on the road in bad weather.

I will occasionally text, but otherwise it has to be an email, or a phone call. Imagine the concept of people actually talking to each other. Pretty revolutionary, isn't it? Even more so if we did it face-to-face.

We don't have to choose just one, we can do it ALL! ![]()
That's the beauty of it, several choices, each one slightly different and used for different purposes. Texting is great for something urgent.

Sure, we can do it all, but anyone who knows me at all know what means of communcation I use.![]()

I still talk on the phone with close friends and sometimes it's a long conversation. I use email for business and health. I text with my daughter every day, usually short exchanges, like today when I told her our power had gone out, we didn't have landline use at that point.
One that hasn't been mentioned is Instagram, which I love and use every day, following photos and comments from others. We have family in Europe, Instagram lets me keep up with the photos of the children, their house, etc. and we can all comment on each photo, getting in a little news. All free. I LOVE IT! ![]()

If I have a lot to say, I email. If I have a really lot to say I phone call. I do not let the young people in my life tell me how I need to communicate. Seriously?? Are you aware that 10% of college graduates think Judge Judy is on the Supreme Court? Carry on old people, and do your own thing! LOL

Take that with a grain of salt. The survey by a biased group only asked 1000 students, no stats provided.
But it's interesting to note that last night on Jimmy Kimmel, several adults said Martin Luther King Jr. had endorsed a certain candidate for the coming election.
