Re: Emailing Others... is it old school

If I get a text message on my phone from my daughter, I get an audio notification.  I know right away to look.  I set my notification as the Sherwood Forest short music notes, I love it.

Yes, you are out of touch. I want, need, must keep up with grandchildren , adult children that are scattered here and there. I have grandchildren from 4- 23 years old. We all(not the very young ones) must keep in contact for many important reasons. Text is immediate. Group text is used many times. My children, grands are polite and respectful as I am to them. We elders must keep up with technology each day, month or years. Texting resolves immediate problems, concerns and is so very helpful. No need to talk on phone all the time in this fast paced world when someone needs help now, immediately. Yes, there are times for phone calls, but texting has helped and saved many situations.

Don't worry, anyone who uses email is as current as the other electronic methods.  The message no matter which medium used gets there just as fast (email vs, text).   It's just that texting is more appropriate for an interactive conversation using more abbreviations and is more real time -- whereas with email you may wait to look in your mailbox for new messages.

I refuse to consider myself a dinasaur because I like to get all my thoughts down in written communication.  Otherwise I actually prefer voice communication.  That probabkly makes me a dinasaur too,  lol

IMO the texting, snapchat, etc... is making us lose our communication skills.

Deb, text messaging isn't meant for long thoughtful communication.  It's exchanging quick notification, ideas and questions.  It can go back and forth but it's a shorter way of communicating.

Most people don't check email every few minutes or even hours.  Texting is usually immediate.

When someone in family has an emergency, there is no time to check long list of emails nor phone calls. I can not tell you the many times my grands or adult children needed emergency, answers, help now, immediately. We use email for longer discussions or explanations when time permits.

In emergencies, not one is concerned about proper punctuation or spelling! In fact, no one is ever concerned about those words, punctuations. Just keep contact. People, family know how to decipher sentences. Sometimes there is little time for English class journalism or ******, paranoid concerns. The message is received.

I have a computer, but don,t e mail my friends, because they do not have computers.  We call each other and talk by the old fashion phone and a landline at that.  WOW what a concept.  What is is might become new again. Someday.  I only e mail business.

My friends two daughters call their mother everyday and so does her granddaughter.  We also still send thank you cards by snail mail.

It depends on the person(s) I'm contacting.
I usually text.

What about senior citizens?  I cannot afford to have a cell phone that texts, so I have to use email or PM on facebook.  If you're sending to a group, how can you PM on FB?  Therefore. I have to email.
