Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

Wow, and just as I was seriously contemplating replacing my laptop with an Apple, you know, to avoid all the downsides of PC ownership, the incessant Windows updates, new OS's, and other glitches, I see this...

@stevieb

All new Macs come pre-installed w/El Capitan.  You will no problems and/or issues.  Besides you have 14 days to return your Mac w/no questions asked if  you do not like it.

The issues the OPs are experiencing are because of upgrading from one OS to another and/or compatiblity issues.

You have nothing to worry about.

The solution only works if you have the backup of your previous OS (Yosemite?).  Are you saying you never backed up??????  Did you keep your Yosemite installer?

Oh Mz iMac....have I ever backed up?  Not to my knowledge.  I honestly don't know how.

Did I keep my Yosemite installer.  I'll have to get back to you on that once I figure out where and how to look for it.

Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

I'm not having as many issues as I did when I first installed Mavericks on my iMac.  I never did install Yosemite because it came out at about the time Mavericks started to work "properly."

However, I am having some big issues with El Capitan.  One involves shutting down my computer.  When I shut it down, it won't restart on the first try.  It freezes.  Then I have to turn it off using the power button, and try again.  It usually boots up the second time.

I also keep losing my internet connection with Safari.  And, it happens several times every day.  It's not my internet connection, because everything else connects fine.  And, Fire Fox will connect.  But, Safari just drops it's connection.

You didn't have EC in the past! Smiley Wink  You must remember, each upgrade will cause glitches in 3rd party software & hardware if not checked for compatibility prior to upgrading.  "New house, new rules."

FWIW:  My external drive turns yellow when I restart my comp.  That is the "default" icon for external drives.  After I click on the icon it magically turns green which is the manufacturer's color for their external hard drives.

Never used Safari, sorry.  Needs to much TLC.  My lover is FireFox. Smiley Very Happy It just works.

Strongly suggest that you post your concerns over on Apple's Safari forums as well as EC forum.  Your issue is mentioned there a lot!!!  Also, read up on your problems on Apple's Knowledge Base, User tips as well as MacWorlds troubleshooting site.

Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

I've been thinking about installing El Capitan but wanted to read if other people were having problems first.  Now I'm really wondering if I should do it at all. I just bought my MacBook Air last November.

How To Downgrade Back To Yosemite

See "Method 2: Through a USB Boot Drive"

We've all been there & back.  Nothing to be ashamed of.

I suspect you will do well purchashing the "Missing Manuals."  The book(s) are not techie, geeky & very easy reading.  A lot of humorous remarks & statement too.

The instructions are very very detailed w/photos.

Check out:  OS X El Capitan: The Missing Manual
