Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

Yeah, just a few minutes ago, my keyboard quit responding except to beep and send out a bunch of signals. I couldn't to a search or type on any of the applications.  I restarted twice. The first restart, my mouse and track pad were frozen and the menu bar had disappeared. So I had to power down to shut it off and start over. Finally on this try I was back up and running. I checked the Apple Community, but didn't find that particular problem. I am so frustrated.

Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

To preface my problem-----I am not technical so my description may be wonky.

I installed El Capitan. I have an external hard drive. I believe it is small and the label says CM on it. When I pick it up it hums.

Okay, here's my issue that I see.

On the desktop there is an icon for the time machine backup. Before EC when I turned the computer on it was yellow for a minute or two and then would turn turquoise. Now since installing EC it has remained yellow all the time.

This worries me, but mr henny says "no problem".

Does anyone have any info about this?

Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

Yes, I've had many glitchy type problems. The most annoying are the myriad of issues that I have now with MailApp. I've had to delete acct and start over. Same with printer. Needed to remove printer and allow the macbook pro el capitan to "find" it again, to get it to work(printer called by a new name ... again). Not too big, but eats up a lot of time trying to find the solution, then to resolve it. I've had problems with speed, which I understood and motivated me to install elC, was supposed to improve with the el capitan. It has not improved, and in certain cases, such as mail, it is much worse. There are the usual problems with many of the "handshakes" that the newest programming fails to anticipate and code for, but these seem to be increasing. It seems to be getting like Windows, where the programs get so large and complex as they are added to, that nobody can ever fully know if the code will cover all instances.

Which forum did you check?  Sorry, but I find this hard to believe.  Your problem is all over the place in the EC & Blootooth forums w/troubleshooting suggestions.  That place is loaded w/very knowledgeable users as well as OS experts.

Did you also check Apple's Knowledge Base?  User Tips?

If you didn't find anything, why didn't you post your problem like you did here??? confused.gif

For the record, I do understand your frustration. Smiley Wink

When I installed El Capitan I didn't seem to have any issues.  Then when the first update came out I installed that.  Shortly there after I started having issues pages opening randomly, pages back and forth, stalling, had to force quit alot and reopen in Safe Mode.

Another poster has given me a lot of guidance and I've been trying to diagnose via reading the Apple Support Forums and other articles.

I haven't had any issues in my mail application (fingers crossed).  Alot of issues with pointer jumping around when I am typing here and in regular email.  At this point my track pad is not operating so I attached an optical mouse.

I have a couple of things I have to try before heading to the Apple Store.

But I am just curious, is it possible to uninstall El Capitan and the update and return to Yosemite or would that just mess things up even more?

@hennypenny

If TM & your external drive are doing what it's suppose to do, listen to "mr henny" Smiley Happy

Read the paperwork that came w/your external drive to find out its name and/or manufacturer.  If the external drive is still under warranty, CALL the manufacturer & express your concerns.  It's their product.  Out of warranty, go to its website troubleshooting section as well as its forums.

It's what I did to confirm if my external drive is compatible & what glitches to expect.

YUP!  From your backup!

Boot into Internet Recovery, Partition the disk in Disk Utility (i.e. erase the entire hard disk), then restore from your backup you made prior to installing.

Re: El Capitan OS...anyone else having problems?

@Mz iMac

Thanks.

Probably a little advanced for my skills, but I am sure DH can do it.

Ah, a dumb question, that will display how untalented I am regarding this stuff and not sure how to ask intellegently.  But would I have had to actually manually do the backup prior to the install or would be automatically performed and saved somewhere.  I'm embarrassed to ask that because I've always heard about backing up and never knew how to do it on a Mac.

Believe it or not, there are alot of people out here who know just enough to be dangerous to ourselves when it comes to not understanding all this technical stuff.  Its like me trying to work on the engine of my car.

@Allegheny

The solution only works if you have the backup of your previous OS (Yosemite?).  Are you saying you never backed up??????  Did you keep your Yosemite installer?
