Hi Mom Smile

We're getting reports up here that you are still getting aftershocks. Also photos of damage in stores and homes.

I know how unnerving those aftershocks can be. I hope you and yours are OK and didn't have any damage.

Hi Noel!!

Yep we are getting a bunch of aftershocks. Really felt the 4.1 a little while ago. Things have settled back down now. No damage except for rattled nerves. Quite a bit of minimal damage near the epicenter. Broken bottles in stores and cracks in homes etc.

Mom - We saw a quake specialist on TV last night who said all the aftershocks could mean a bigger one is coming. I'm mentioning this for one reason, not to sound like Debby Downer but to offer a couple of suggestions.

We went through the 1989 quake of 6.9 up here, and that included A LOT of horrible aftershocks. I have a couple of pieces in the house that are family antiques that mean a lot to me, especially a mantel clock dated 1864 and a Waterford crystal vase that belonged to my paternal grandmother. I took them down after the first big shake and wedged them between throw pillows up against a wall and something to brace them.

I always keep extra batteries and flashlights around, along with a collection of QVC flameless candles to light the house and halls at night. Also a radio that can be wound up for enough energy to last up to an hour, that way you can continue to get the news.

I also bought an old fashioned phone that goes in a regular phone jack. It will work when a wireless phone will not.

I wish you all the best and hope the aftershocks cease soon.

Thanks so much for the great suggestions Noel. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

I am seriously going to take them. I particularly like the phone suggestion and crank radio. I have Museum glue under my breakable collectibles.

I remember your earthquake. We were settling down to watch the World Series when the quake hit. Wasn't it called the Loma Prieta quake? I will never forget the images of the collapsed freeway and the fires. It was just horrific!!

Accordiing to the news there have been over 60 aftershocks from this quake. We have only felt a handful of them and only one big one. Hopefully that's it!!

Hi again!

Yes, the Loma Prieta quake. My daughter and I were waiting for her dad to get home from work. He was going to pick up a pizza and we were going to watch the World Series, also.

After the quake, we went outside where all the neighbors were gathered and all stayed together for hours. DH went to the homes of the elderly to make sure they were OK, the teens went to stores looking for batteries, and us moms tried to put together a dinner without cooking or opening the frig. Our daughter wouldn't go to bed that night, she was afraid, so we stayed up for hours and let her sleep on the sofa until the wee hours.

Take care, my friend {#emotions_dlg.wub}

So happy all are safe. They are scary........I don't even know how one would prepare for an earthquake.........? I pray none of us are ever hurt by one.

Oklahoma has been having earthquakes nearly everyday. Last night they had 9. Some as big as 4.+ What is going on?

I do believe that fracking has caught up with us. Also, I am a firm believer in Global Warming, so as the glaciers melt, the water is now building up pressure on the tectonic plates, which then causes the plates to shift - earthquakes.

I know you ladies like to "shake" things up out there, but please be careful and safe. Wishing you all the best.

Fracking is a dangerous practice. Please let the politicians on both sides of the aisle know that you don't want poisons and high pressure steam to be forced into the ground.

That was very thoughtful of him.
