Could there be tsunami warnings later on?

@sidsmom  no!   epicenter is  120 miles from LA (west) and another 10 - 20 to the coast.

not near the coast.

@ms traditional

Whew!  I didn’t know how all that works.

Thanks for answering my endless questions.

Earthquakes fascinate me...no warning would freak me out!

@sidmom   yes, that's why they always remind us about having  earthquake kit with packaged food, water, flashlights  etc.

if we really had advance warning,  it would be a nightmare evacuating L A. a Florida hurricane traffic jam x 100.  so,   hopefully, it won't be an issue!

@sidsmom

Los angeles area didn't get warning because the strength may not have been high enough.  But the US  seismologist ( sp) on CNN said that China Lake area ma get more warnings

Felt here....were by the Ling Beach Airport. It was a real roller. Lasted a pretty long time. 6.4 centered in the city of Ridgecrest. It is pretty scary because you don’t know if it is going to get worse. Our house really rolled back & forth. You get a dizzy, sick to your stomach feeling when it comes on. You can follow the earthquakes at Earthquake.usga.gov pretty interesting.

Re: Earthquake: Los Angeles 6.4

Watching CNN.   They had a female (expert) talking, quite interesting.  Moments ago they were talking to a woman now from Ridgecrest are who works in a senior facility.  Power is out, temperature in the 90s.  Heartbreaking to listen to her.  Her voice cracking.  While she was on the phone they were notified to move out to the lobby area.

My only experience with an earthquake was in Maui 2006 a 6.7.  Quite an experience for a Pennsylvanian.  I literally called my brother and told him I loved him and wanted to talk to him one last time, just in case.  We were supposed to fly out that morning, it took us two days to get home.

I can’t think of another natural disaster where there’s no warning.

Tornado, hurricane, blizzard, fire, volcano, lightning, etc.

These might be sudden in the moment, but we usually have an idea

those things could happen...but earthquake?  Eeeps.

Do you think animals sense something coming?

Or is that an Old Wives Tale?

6.4 sitting on the sofa in the den looking at tv. Shook a little and knew what it was. Said aftershock to come in 2 hours. Haven't had one it seems like ages.  Live in the San Gabriel Valley.

@Allegheny   many many towns from surrounding areas will help Ridgecrest  with fire trucks, search teams, ambulances, evacuation if needed,  etc.  it just takes a little time due to the location
