Re: Dr Phil on the view 3/16/2020

He was licensed in Texas but let that license expire in 2006{?)

I believe he didn't renew because he was now in California, where it is true that he didn't obtain a license.

He doesn't need one for what he does on his show.

@RetRN   I'm not sure where you are reading this but it isn't true.

@mom2four0418   "Residency" is misleading.  I believe his doctoral dissertation was on the psychological aspects of rheumatoid arthritis.

He most likely met with medical patients in both hospital and private settings but he certainly was never in internal medicine.

I'm surprised Robin didn't pop in to hawk her "beauty" products.

Re: Dr Phil on the view 3/16/2020

We have known from early on in China that this virus is transmitted by respiratory droplet.  Please research the difference between airborne transmission and respiratory droplet transmission.

Somehow people are conflating the importance of touching surfaces in the transmission of this virus without realizing that with respiratory droplet transmission, even the act of talking can disperse the virus to someone else in close proximity via respiratory droplet.  That is different than airborne transmission, but it also means that if someone is shedding the virus and you happen to be just within a couple of feet of them talking, it is quite possible to contract the virus yourself via your mouth, nose, or eyes.

Add to that for this virus most medical articles are discussing the fact that viral load is higher in people without symptoms than people with symptoms and that compounds the problem of transmission and can actually be a nightmare.

One reason why so many people that have contracted the virus here have no idea of how they came into contact with it and were not and still in some places are not being tested because they don't fit the category of having traveled or having contact with someone they know had the virus.

And while some have recovered, there are multiple stories out there of fairly young individuals that talked about how sick they were.  And then yet others that had to quarantine because of a positive test but they had no symptoms at all.

So with respiratory droplet transmission, it is possible to contract the virus just by being within close proximity to someone talking, or coming into contact with the live virus on some type of fomite.  A fomite is really defined as an inanimate object capable of transmitting an infectious agent by touching it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.

The reason that social distancing and not coming into close contact with one another is so important for slowing the rate of transmission is because of the respiratory droplet exposure.  Just being in close proximity to someone else that is talking, laughing, etc. counts as exposure.
