last year I cleaned house and gave most of my things to the SPCA (they do yard sales four days a week) right now I could fit all my belomgings in one box....

I don't think I've ever seen a box big enough for all my stuff, lol. Good for you. Glad your extra items are going to such a good cause.

Re: Downsizing for the New Year

I totally agree with the poster who suggested asking your kids if there's anything they want to have!  I asked my daughter, and the list of things she

came up with totally surprised me!  I had no idea those things meant so much to her.  One thing was my first set of china.  Since I had several other sets, I hadn't used it since we moved to our current house 28 years ago. She was 3 years old at the time.  I had it stored away, but she knew exactly where it was.  She had happy memories of using it at our old house when she was very little.

Please ask your kids if there's anything they want before you donate it.

Congrats! I know what a good feeling it is!!! I just talked to my son and was telling him about the home improvements I plan to do this year....he was funny he said "I'm glad your improving the house (my inheritance) but I am more excited to not have to clean out your excess stuff"!

I told him the only excess I might have is my kitchen stuff, dishes, gadgets...just am a kitchen junkie for all things!😊

Donated so many good things and old/tired things right to the dumpster! I feel like I've lost 50 lbs.!

Another way I declutter and save a few bucks in the new year is to use all the food in my freezer and pantry in Jan and Feb. That way it doesn't go to waste and I start afresh and don't have to buy much.

@homedecor1 - I'm in my 60s and I also think of someone coming into my house after I'm gone and saying "she had so much ******!"  Ha!

I have a gorilla, from FAO Schwartz that occupies my loveseat.  It used to occupy my recliner.  I am trying to find a home for the gorilla so that I don't have to bag him and put him to the curb.

Cue the Twilight Zone music...

Bag him and throw him to the curb before it's too late!  Don't let the cute gorilla face fool you!  He's moved from your recliner to your loveseat...he's taking over!  What's next??  I say lock your bedroom door!
