I would NEVER be arrogant enough to judge anyone in this situation. Some can, some can't. Doesn't make it right or wrong.

Agreed, not everyone is equipped to parent a special needs child.

Then perhaps they shouldn't have had any children because that is the chance you take.

Perhaps adopting a perfect child would have been the better route for them.

That's my opinion.

Of course, the certified "perfect" child can later get cancer, asthma, allergies or something else to bother these so called parents.

They have the wrong attitude on parenting, IMO.

ITA.

The child also had heart problems and was looking at multiple surgeries over a period of years.

Children aren't dogs or livestock...and women shouldn't be used as brood mares...especially women from poor countries.

It may be perfectly LEGAL, but that doesn't make it MORAL.

The surrogate mom will be blessed in many ways. The Downs child did wind up with the best parent.

I'd like to add, their lack of compassion and their lack of morals.

I just hope if something happens to either of them, someone has more compassion for them and doesn't toss them aside.

IMO if you aren't "equipped" to handle a special needs child, you aren't equipped to handle a child at all. At any time, God forbid, something could happen and that child can go from a healthy, vibrant child to special needs.

Another wonderful example of "if the child isn't perfect, the child is disposable".

And I agree with Vcamp about contracting for babies.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

People get upset when buyers only want pedigreed dogs...

Yet they think it's A-OK to contract with a woman in a foreign country, pay her for her eggs and then reject one of the children because it's not "perfect."

How miserable can people get?

There are plenty of already born children ready and waiting to be adopted. Maybe even some right there in Thailand. I bet they can even take an adoptable child for testing - to make sure they are getting a healthy child.

But no - the dad needed his own precious genes in the child...but it had better be perfect to boot!

The father's age can also increase the probability of having a Down's child, and this father is said to be 56.

He is saying that they were told the child wouldn't survive and for them to say goodbye to him and take the little girl and return home. Don't know which story will end up being the truth.

I respectfully disagree with you. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right. Most people do know right from wrong.

These parents are thankfully the exception...not the norm. Which is why their story made news.
