I read about that incident a few days ago.  The lady did not tip through the app.  She prefered to give a cash tip in person.

The driver opened her bag of food and put the note  inside.  When she delivered, the lady handed her a cash tip which the driver refused to take.

How embrassing was that for her?  The lady asked why the tip was being refused and the driver told her about the note she left in the bag  and left in a hurry.

The lady reported the driver.

Re: Door Dash Driver

[ Edited ]

When I was going through my divorce, my ex went against court orders and cut  me off of  all funds. I tried door dashing one night! My very first order was a huge Walmart delivery. I'm talking cases of water, big bags of dog food just a huge order all around. No cash tip and they stood at the window and waved at me. My DoorDash career was over.

Maybe they are not allowed to take a cash tip. I know years ago the first time that I took Uber, I tried to tip in cash and was told that this wasn't allowed and to tip on the app.

I do not tip in advance for a service. I prefer to tip in cash after the service is done. I will always tip but if the service is prompt and the driver/server is helpful they will get a better tip.

They can and do accept cash tips. Wrong of that driver to do that. Door dash people should be tipped if the service is good. While I know some people can not get out and get their own food and supplies, I think some are just too lazy to do so.

I always tip in cash. Door Dash, Uber Eats, the service that cleans my house - all WANT me to tip in their app, but I always use cash. How the recipient reports it is up to them.

I have always understood that the tip is not included on an app or debit/credit card because it has to be reported on their income tax. I once had a pedicure and there was a huge sign saying please tip in cash only.

I saw this at a new place i decided to try. I dont usually have cadh. I left afterward and went to an ATM to get their tip. I never returned. Screw that.

I get weekly grocery delivery. Tips are always suggested on payment page depending on order amount and can be adjusted. Drivers get minimum of 15% from me.  More if I have a lot of heavy items.  Well worth it

I use Grubhub, Instacart and Shipt all the time.  For Instacart and Grubhub I always include the tip on the app.  That's probably one of the reasons we get our orders quickly and without issues.

I've read many times that drivers are hesitant to take orders that don't show a tip.

With Shipt (Target orders) they don't have a spot to add a tip before the order but I always tip well after the fact.  There's one shopper who I have as a preferred shopper and I always make sure I tip him well.  He's very conscientious and always very thankful.   Even though my husband and I are both in corporate retail / food service, I think these shoppers / drivers have a tough job.

I don't order prepared food online, but I shop for groceries through instacart. I always tip.  I also tip them extra for really good service.  These shoppers have to drive their cars to and from stores.
