We run the dishwasher daily. The thought of having dirty dishes collecting germs? Not acceptable for me.

Towels and sheets washed once a week. All other clothing twice a week.

That poor woman!🙁 I cannot imagine living with a man who gossips with neighbors about the utility bills.🙄

Re: Doing laundry/running dishwasher

My son is now home from college but even when it is only my husband and I, I do at least one load of wash per day.  There are always bath and kitchen towels, underwear, night clothes and daily clothing.I do it first thing in the morning. I accumulate dark clothes and do them 2 to 3 times a week.  Monday there are always 2 loads as that is sheet day.

When my daughters lived at home, there were always at least 2 loads a day.

When it's two of us, the dishwater doesn't get used.  For some strange reason, my husband likes to do dishes. Now that we are now 3, the dishwasher runs when we go to bed.

Re: Doing laundry/running dishwasher

I went back to college a couple decades ago.  To pay for it I picked up a job at a local dry cleaners.  There was one woman who brought in her husband's shirt to be laundered every day.  She said she couldn't stand anything in the clothes hamper.  The funny thing to me was this woman was running a company.  Whether it was successful or not I never knew.  It just seemed a waste of time to bring that one shirt in every day.

Mr husband needs to address the elephant in the room.  Wife has mental illness and is using this coping skill to get her level of axiety down.  Quit being a blabberpuss and help your wife! Sheesh!

Interesting point of view here.  Do you know if it was stated that wife was always this way or did this suddenly start happening?  Maybe OCD.  Maybe the way she was raised to keep a tidy home.  He stayed, so maybe he's happy and was just blowing off steam as we all like to do from time to time.  No harm no foul.  I don't think we need to sound the mental health alarm just yet.  We don't know enough.

Re: Doing laundry/running dishwasher

There is only DH & I.  I have quite a few loads, but I find that doing laundry once a week is sufficient.  I think it is wasteful to do laundry every day or do a load if you have one item.  We do not have a dishwasher -- never had one.  DH is our dishwasher!  Our water bill is atrocious.  And yes, I had heard that it is going to go up substantially.  Well, why should it be any different than everything else that is going sky high??? Woman Sad

Re: Doing laundry/running dishwasher

I don't limit myself to any kind of schedule; I do laundry when we have enough for maybe 1 load. I'd rather do a few small loads than one gigantic one. And of course most of my appliances have settings for how big or small our loads should be. And except for bedding and underwear, we wash everything in cold water.

As far as the dishwasher is concerned, we wait till it's really full and then run it in the middle of the night when the electric rates are lower.

I agree. @gertrudecloset  Way too judgmental on this board. Cleaning every day, running a dishwasher, or doing a load of wash does not equal OCD. As for him sharing with his neighbors. There is nothing wrong with him venting. He isn't gossiping, he probably needs someone to listen.
