You should be happy you 'have a family'.

I don't consider reading or watching a movie  highly private, uninterruptable activities, and since I lead a lonely life, I'd be happy to have someone interrupt me.

I'm rarely engrossed in anything important so it doesn't really matter. There is one person who calls me way too much and talks for a long time. That bothers me, especially if I want to do things around the house, but I allow it.

It only bothers me if I am really up against a time limit or deadline...then I hate being interrupted. Otherwise it isn’t a problem for me.

Yes... I have always had a good sense of timing..when to interrupt, when to discuss something that might cause an argument, etc., etc.

I just think it's good manners.

If I want absolute privacy to read, work on the computer, watch TV, whatever, I have a she-den for that.  And I use it!!     Because if I go to the family room to watch something on TV, you can be sure I'll be interrupted a million times.   Thank goodness for that "pause" button on the TV!

It goes both ways.... if I see my husband watching TV, I'll wait till a commercial comes on to ask him something.  Or wait to talk to him once his show is over.  If I respect him, he respects me.

I understand the OP's frustration.  My control-freak ex couldn't stand it when I was reading a book....he would continually interrupt me.  It was like he couldn't stand my attention be on anything but him.

Obviously most of us don't mind an occasional interruption when we are reading, watching a movie, or some other activity.  But when it has become a constant habit...yes, it is irritating.  With my ex it was part of a much bigger control issue.
