Isn't that the truth?!

I don't know if it's fear, but I just hate to go. I haven't had any problems in forever. The dentist is a social friend and he knows I hate to go. He tells new hygienists that. Then they all laugh,

No fear here.
My problem is that I don't have dental insurance....I can afford a regular visit but anything beyond that is out of my budget.

I found out something interesting when searching for individual dental insurance.
The company I sold insurance for had individual plans, but the provider list was small and the benefits weren't very good beyond the basics. For $17 a month, you would get 2 cleanings and a set of xrays every year. The assistance with fillings and other restorative work wouldn't kick in for 6 months (50% of service)...and was capped at $750 for the year.
So I called my own dentist and found out they had their own "insurance plan." For $229 a year, I get 2 cleanings, xrays, 25% off ALL services...starting immediately.
The receptionist told me that a lot of dentists now offer similar plans.
Maybe your dentist does too???

Oh my God, yes! I'm 40 and finally had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out two years ago. When they put that shot in the back of your mouth that numbs you, but then makes it so hard for you to swallow that you feel like your going to gag..... It's not fun.

I dislike going to any doctor, really. I feel so vulnerable in those chairs and on those tables. I can deal with my dentist because he has a great sense of humor.

I know what you mean about that pesky Holloween candy, mine was a caramel something or other. Took out a big filling and left the shell of the tooth. Once I get all of this dental work done and pay for it maybe it will be incentive to stay away from candy. Keep my teeth in good shape and my hips too.
I don't touch hard candy anymore either, plus I was like the owl, had it in my mouth a little bit and then I always bit it. Of course, this one I bit hard as I thought it was gum. Never again, don't chew gum either.

I have a fear of NOT going to the dentist, because if the teeth aren't kept in good shape, more serious situations will develop requiring more extensive work (root canal?????? implants, bridge, etc.... OMG...no!!).
