Re: Doc who had EBOLA to be released today

You're welcome, terrier....Dr. Brantley just about brought me to tears with his statement. I hope this outbreak in Africa can be controlled soon.

Kittymom, can you summarize what he said? I wish I was able to hear it, but hopefully they'll show it on the evening news.

Yeah, like Donald Trump who didn't want them brought back here to the US.

I think it is wonderful news too, but I hope he doesn't go back to Africa!

I can't find the video yet, but I'm sure it will be available soon. He thanked Samaritan's Purse and those who took care of him in Africa. He also requested that people of influence here in the US will do everything they can to help the people of West Africa.

This is a little bit from ABC news:

Nancy Writebol and Dr. Kent Brantly have been cured of the Ebola virus and released from Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Brantly, 33, called his recovery "a miraculous day."

"I am thrilled to be alive, to be well, and reunited with my family," he said.

He also told a news conference at Emory Hospital that "God saved my life."

Both patients were given blood and urine tests to determine whether they still had the virus, Emory doctors said in a statement released this morning.

"After a rigorous course of treatment and testing we have determined, in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and state health departments, that (Brantley) has recovered from the Ebola Virus Disease and he can return to his family, to his community, and to his life without any public health concerns," Dr. Bruce Ribner, director of Emory’s Infectious Disease Unit, said today.

Brantly said that when Writebol left the hospital on Tuesday, she asked him to speak on her behalf ot the public and express gratitude for prayers on her behalf.

"When she walked out of the room, all she could say was ‘To God be the glory,’" Brantly recalled. "Nancy and (her husband) David are now spending some much needed time together."

Writebol's husband said in the statement that Writebol left the hospital in a "significantly weakened condition."

Brantly is expected to give a statement today.

Brantly contracted the deadly virus while working in a Liberian Ebola ward with the aid agency Samaritan’s Purse. He was evacuated to the U.S. earlier this month along with Writebol.

Brantly is slated to speak at a press conference today, with an update about Writebol also planned.

Agreed, kittymomNC. It was a very heartfelt and gracious speech.

Topaz Gem - Dr. Brantley began by explaining what brought him to Liberia in the first place, being part of a missions effort through Samaritans Purse. He eloquently thanked Samaritans Purse, the medical professionals for the way they ministered to him medically but also tenderly, and all who prayed for him. It is his firm belief that it is God who healed him by using these people and hearing all the prayers. He's been separated from his family for a month so now he's going to take some time to decompress and reconnect with them. Of course, I haven't done him justice, but that's the gist of it.

Good for the doctor to leave the hospital. I would still want him to be watched and monitored for a while. We don't know if the virus would come back in a relapse that would be stronger and more deadly.

He will never be able to get this type of ebola again. That is a scientific fact.
