Re: Do you take vitamins/supplements?

I have a few things that I kind of try to take. I have to say, however, that I HATE taking vitamins. Hate it hate it hate it! Consequently, I'm kind of bad at it. But I do know that I need a few things that help with some of my conditions. Still hate it, though!

The liver things hits really close to home with me, LD.

My mom had non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis. By the time she was diagnosed, it was Stage IV. She only lived 9 months then.

She was obsessed with vitamins and cleanses. I believe that contributed to her illness. All those vitamins and supplements are very hard on your liver.

Brii, I didn't know there was such a thing. Is it the same as fatty liver disease? I'll have to do some research on that. My dad died of cirrhosis but his was from drinking. Unfortunately, like your mom, by the time he was diagnosed, he only lived 6 months. I think he had symptoms and just let them go.

Re: Do you take vitamins/supplements?

The only vitamins I was told to take are Vitamin D and Calcium because my Vitamin D gets checked through blood work and its always low. And I have a bad back, hip, etc. At one point I was on prescription Vitamin D for a short time because my Vitamin D level was critically low.

Other wise no I don't pop vitamins. I eat food to get my vitamins.

My husband was taking all kinds of vitamins. He told his Dr and she said theres no one on earth that needs all of those vitamins. So he stopped.

It's not fatty liver disease. It's cirrhosis. She didn't drink, so it was classified as non-alcoholic cirrhosis.

Looking back, she had symptoms too and ignored them. By the time she got the courage to go to the doctor, it was too late. She always boasted that she didn't need a doctor because she took such good care of herself.

Re: Do you take vitamins/supplements?

Thanks Brii. Did the docs ever say what causes cirrhosis when it's not alcohol related?

Hepatitis is one cause.

They couldn't really give us any definitive cause. They sent her liver biopsy to a few research hospitals, and they said that there simply isn't enough case studies to conclude what it was caused from. She brought up the vitamins with every doctor she talked to. They all said it was a good possibility that that's what it was from. They found unusually high amounts of metal in her liver. They said vitamins contain trace amounts of metal. If you consume vitamins for as long as she did and as many as she took, it was a possibility.

Obviously, people who take vitamins don't succumb to cirrhosis. Every person is different and has different reactions to everything they take.

Hepatitis is one cause. They ruled that out in her case.
