Re: Do you take everything at face value?

If you sit back and watch, over time you come to "see" certain things about other posters, as they do about you I'm sure. You get to know what rings true to a certain extent because you can't know for sure. But you definitely learn who has the major problems in their personalities driving their participation here. People don't realize how they telegraph info about themselves. In many cases the desperate attempt to make it seem like it's about something other than their portrayal,is all that is needed to make the judgement. You should of course never share this information, but after a while, you do tend to bypass anything they may say whether as author of a thread or a participant. Just as you would in real life.

The contrary, really. YOU showed US. Just perhaps not exactly what you intended.

Re: Do you take everything at face value?

No one has to adopt the oplnlon or accept the beliefs of others at face value. However, I read so many responses  from posters that just seem to be contrarians. The response usually has a big old dollop of snark included in their " concerned" reply.

Do you take everything at face value?

If I did I'd be certifiable.  Smiley Sad

Re: Do you take everything at face value?

I saw the thread and wondered why anyone felt it their responsibility to share their personal skepticism.  It's not as if there was a need to justify their reluctance to photograph and share.

Often threads contain information I have no desire to act upon so I just don't.  I don't feel I should discourage others. I am not their advisor; it's neither my responsibility nor my place to play mummy knows best.

Re: Do you take everything at face value?

I don't know.... I try to give the benefit of the doubt.  Online, it's impossible unless there is a pattern to how the person posts (and you've read many of those posts).

In real life....ONLY if I know the person says what they mean and means what they say. I know two people who are like that; my father was one of them and he has passed on. The other is a very dear friend who believes that character makes the person.

Beyond that, not really. Sad, isn't it.

I tried that once.  Didn't work out and now I tend to examine or avoid.

@QVCkitty1 and @skuggles posts are similar to my thoughts. We all form opinions as we spend time here, and they will all be different. We also get to know the pot-stirrers and the shock-for-shock's-sake posters. How we deal with them and with their posts is also individual.  Where we respond, why we respond and when we respond is also individual and may or may not follow any patterns. It's based on evidence & gut feelings, as much of life is.

I saw the OP but didn't follow it.  My imagination is failing me.  What were a few of the downsides?
