Do you take everything at face value?

I have noticed on these boards, that some people chastise others who question or are skeptical about posts that on the surface seem to be about something good or helpful or kind.

There is a thread about submitting pictures of hotel rooms you stay in, to help stop human trafficking.

A few people step up and say, 'hold on, this could be less than honorable, and I have some reservations'.

Others come on and shame them for being cautious.

I see this often. Some people voice concern, caution, questioning about something, and others just have a 'smh' attitude about that behavior.

So my question is, should we all just jump on any bandwagon that seems good/helpful/honorable, or should we step back, be a little skeptical, and make a more calculated decision?

I'm in the skeptical camp. And for me, it came with age and experience. I'm a 'rather be safe than sorry' kind of person. Things aren't always what the seem to be on the surface, and it can be dangerous to just take things at face value, without some further inquiry.

I do until credible evidence gives me reasonable doubt.

Re: Do you take everything at face value?

I'm a skeptic by nature - years lived/experienced and analytical though processes.

Whether I believe what someone posted that they obtained elsewhere depends upon my common sense and what I can google, if it's worth googling.

Whether I believe what someone relates as a personal experience or situation they are relating depends upon whether they appear to be a not-new "new" poster, the types of posts they routinely make/start if they are not a new poster, i.e. is there a pattern; whether they appear to have an agenda, and yep - my common sense. We hear what any poster wants us to hear - as is often said, one side of the story.

There do appear to be a fair number of posters (and I'm not referencing the previously mentioned thread) who would either seem to be very gullible, or are pot-stirrers. I'm skeptical of both.

Does this mean I never believe anyone? Of course not. But I do NOT take much of what is posted here at face value - and the OP and I are not alone in that.

Old/er people tend not to believe things even after they are given  the facts.

Unfair judgement here!  Many OLDER people are very knowledgeable and know how to find out the "facts".  Age doesn't make anyone less intelligent!

And pretty much everyone, of all ages, loses respect for those who holler for mama to make it all go 'way when things don't go the way they want.

It isn't even a judgment, it's just a stone thrown by someone who can't hack it in the playground.

If you're referring to the other thread I requested it to be removed because it could have harmed someone who did not read the entire thread and used the app. I would never want that to happen.
