It appears that for some people stealing directly from a store by going in the store is the only type of actual theft.

The fact that it's the store's error does not make it not theft if you keep the item. If a store mistakenly left their doors unlocked it's ok to go in and take something?

You have integrity of your moral compass @Jordan2, , that doesn't make you a "goody goody".

Common sense.  No, Amazon is not gonna send a pickup or label for a $2 pair of socks.  I think most of us can use common sense.

$13 mis-sent small appliance on clearance?  Called and they DO NOT want it back.  They send me another one, no they don't want a clearance item like that back either.  They mark them as missing, damaged, and deduct the cost.

If I receive something in error, I would send it back.  That's why prices are higher for everybody else.

I ordered a bra and Gold Toe Socks from Macys and received them in the same package, I have paid the bill for them. Yesterday I received the socks, they were the same exact ones I ordered, I wasn't billed for them. This was an error on Macys part, am I a goody goody for thinking I should return the socks? I'm not going right away with the Christmas rush return.

@Jordan2  I would call and let Macy's make the decision. Chances are they may tell you to keep the socks.

Just keep an eye out in case you end up being billed later.

OP here, I went to Macys this morning to return the socks. He put a credit on my account in case they end up charging me for the socks I returned. What happens now if I purchase something from Macys, will they deduct the amount of the credit on my card? It seems I'll still have a problem.

I have had similar things happen to me with QVC. Both times I called them up to report it because it was the right thing to do.

Both times they told me to keep the item.

You will only still have a problem if they never charge you for the socks.

@Jordan2 It sounds as though he really didn't understand the situation but for now see what happens and let it be for now.

As I mentioned earlier you may be charged still for the socks so just watch your account for the next billing cycle or two.

If you are not charged ever for the socks you can go back in person again.

See what happens and do not worry about it for now.

I was going to post to ignore the credit if the socks are never charged and just pay what you actually owe but that opens up another problem.🤔😧
