How soon after Christmas is it ok to ask someone to do something? I know it depends on the request but when does 'real life' start again, per se? I don't want to interrupt their family time but would like to get something taken care of. Just wondering your general thoughts.

I have one friend whose family is not coming in for the holidays until this weekend and staying through next Wed. I usually leave everyone alone until after New Year's Day since the holidays for some are not the traditional time frame.

@ThinkingOutLoud - It depends on what you want done and whom you are asking.
Is it a business? If so, make the call.
If it's an individual and it's important, I'd make the call, explaining that, if it's an inconvenient time, you'll call again later.
For DH and myself, Christmas is over. Back to "real life"!

I agree with this.
I would differ with it being an individual, if they have kids. I would wait until after the kids go back to school. Where I live, that's January 6.
My opinion.

Well, it depends on whether you want them to HELP YOU MOVE, or just pick up a pound of butter if they go grocery shopping...

Perhaps, after an interval, it could be appropriate to request an individual or individuals to perform an undertaking. A careful evaluation of the timing might be prudent.

I think it depends on the individual and the business. We have a handyman that does almost anything, I texted him last week and asked him about a few jobs. One is installing a bathroom fan, another is outdoor-painting our porch and our normal outdoor spring clean up. He gets our spring/summer furniture out, puts the holiday manger decor away, weeds the beds, etc. Just want to get the jobs on his calendar because he books up each year. On the other side of the coin, we're having a pole building built and those fellas surprised me and showed up 12/23 and 24, and are here today. So it doesn't hurt to reach out!

I would call and ask when it would be a convenient time for that person to perform that service. That person may be available sooner than you think.

Christmas is over. Please, please, please tell me we are back to real life.
