The taste of water can vary greatly from place to place. At one of the luncheons I hosted, I brought water from home to make the tea. The ladies all raved about the tea. I used the same tea, but not the same water.
They had city water ,but used a different treatment plant than my neighborhood.

Pure water like distilled water has no taste. Taste come from what minerals are in the water and that varies with the location of the source. Many chain restaurants use distilled or demineralized water for their coffee and cooking to keep tastes the same at all locations. It's probably not a good idea to drink from a stream or river as there may also be bacteria or other parasites in the water. They can make you quite ill as for example some long distance hikers found out. At home I drink only bottled water. DH uses water that has passed through a Britta filter.

People seem to be paying large amounts of money for it too. So crazy.
This is one trend I won’t take part in.

Frankly, this is the first I've seen this. And I must say people are nuts. One case of cholera, e-coli, c-diff, etc will hopefully end this fad. I can even remember decades ago being taught that if you absolutely have to, find the coldest, fastest running stream to get water from, preferably away from any obvious domesticated animals (or wildlife), and boil if you can.

We have well water and think it tastes better. Back in the day I had a relative who lived on a farm w/a well. When they came to town always brought their own water. Kinda like people do today with bottled water, etc. BUT, the reason they did that was because they thought aliens ( from other planets) contaminated the city water.

When we were kids we thought nothing of swimming in natural lakes like Lake Erie, Pymatuning Lake in Pa.and the rivers in Pittsburgh. I'm 100% certain we swallowed some of that water. And yet here I still am 60+ yers later.

The water from your well is NOT the same as raw water from a stream.
They are two different things!

I see. Drinking from a stream is sort of like people drinking unpasteurized milk. It's risky. Pasteurization kills nasty germs like Bovine tuberculosis and brucelosis.
