Re: Do You Still Write Checks?

I have written more checks in the last 2 years since moving to central Florida from Northern Florida then I have in years.  For some reason most businesses here prefer checks over credit cards.  Very odd.  Smaller mom and pop businesses but big ticket items like concrete work, remodeling,  etc.  Even my hairdresser doesn't take credit cards.  The vet prefers checks as well.  We assume they don't want the credit card fees.

All the time for bills and home repairs.  Never write them in stores though.

Re: Do You Still Write Checks?

@Kachina624   I had auto pay set up thru my bank for my electric bill...they paid it late.  I got a call from the electric company letting me know it was late.  We did a 3 way conversation with the bank and they admitted it, so the late fee was waived....never again.

A few,but not as many as before. We do not own a debit card and when out,(groceries, etc) pay cash. If and when we are forced to go "paperless",we will open an account that is used for that.

I keep on dancin'

Re: Do You Still Write Checks?

I still use them periodically. My yardman doesn't take anything other than checks. His is a small local company and he won't even take cash unless he's sent me a bill first; said it messes up his "system" so I'll comply. I send checks to the kids in my family who live out of town, including them with their greeting cards. I don't carry checks with me, using my bank debit card for most purchases or cash. Vendors in my small town have started tacking on a "card" purchase charge, whether debit or credit. I understand why stores don't want to accept checks, due to the number of bad checks they may get, but I still think it's sad that we are becoming a society where the banks benefit so much on the consumers' backs. I visited an out of town gift shop a couple years ago where they wouldn't accept cash. Yes, the purchase stayed right there on their counter.

Yes, I do. I have debated a lot, whether to start Venmo but I think they will get hacked sooner or later and there goes my bank account. So I am reluctant... But check are a pain!!

Re: Do You Still Write Checks?

I do but only from necessity.  My hairdresser prefers cash or check because of the CC processing fee.  Our trash service is locally owned, and you can pay by CC but only by phone, and then you are accessed the processing fee.  So I pay that bill by check.  Our yard guy only accepts checks.  Our church is not a modern church, so yes...checks there.  My dental office gives a cash discount on procedures over $2500 if paid in full before the procedure, so yup...another check there. The company who stains our fence gives a discount if paid by check, and so on and so on...
