Thank you again SO much everyone for your advice, and help and encouraging words. It means alot.  Will need to decide what is best now with this situation.

I am still bummed that no family would help out but it was alot to ask of them so I do understand. Not a small amt of money!

Truly I need to STOP the spending right now and not use the credit card.....

Hugzzzz

@Tori3569I did not mean to neglect the issues of extenuating circumstances -- and most of us will unfortunately  have them, sooner or later. That makes it even more important not to stretch your money out buying non-essential things on credit. I believe in the old adage, "Save for a rainy day." Once the essentials are paid for, saving a portion of what's left, if there is something left, is important.

Life is harsh sometimes, but the reality of it is that @Q-Checker was speaking the truth plainly.  She wasn't judging or condemning, IMHO.

I found her statements to be good suggestions of what we all really should know.

She was simply pointing out the pitfalls so many of us fall into by overusing and overextending on our credit cards.

I would wager that if we scanned any of our CC monthly invoices...there are plenty of purchases that were NOT for food, meds or utilities!!

I use my CC for everything!  However, if I could not pay for it in cash right Then and there...I would not purchase it.

I agree that inflation has hurt us all....gas prices, utilities, FOOD!  YIKES all so high....but many of us still buy 'wants' that we can live without....and don't readjust our budget to fit with this awful economy.  That is withon our power.  The cost of many other things I personally can't do anything about.

May I please have a discount on gas today?  I also am on a fixed income!  Doesn't work.

I'm sorry you're facing this. The only advice I can give is to go over to Dave Ramsey's website.

He also has a radio show and probably can be seen on youtube. "Rice and beans, beans and rice".  In other words get back to the very basics and put everything you possibly can towards that debt. Explain to family members what you're doing so they won't invite you out to eat or expect birthday and Christmas presents until you're out of debt. You'll be amazed how fast you can whittle it down. Also the success stories that you can read and/or listen to will help inspire you. It's doable. It won't be comfortable, but it's doable.   You will be so proud of yourself and sleep better at night once those debts are paid. Good luck!

@CherryHugs what you should do is cut the credit card up and remove it from any websites that you have it saved on.

Being in some credit card debt right now Man Frustrated

and paying it seems on the interest and never getting ahead on the card---Was wondering if anyone has a Discover Card and if its good

( No interest on it for 15 months)

PLUS if the balance on the card with a big balance can be transfered to the discover card OR other no interest one?

Man Happy

I appreciate any help!

Update. I called them today and got my interest rate down from 17% to 9.99.

This will help pay them off faster.  I do not charge on it anymore, which also will help.  They will work with you.

Is it only one credit card? If not, have you thought of debt consolidation? I had a Discover Card way back thru Sears. I don’t remember any issues & can’t give any advice re balance transfers as I never did one. I would try to work with your creditors before opening another credit card. Dave Ramsey does give great advice & I think LR stated Suze Ohrman helped her become debt free. It doesn’t help now but might for future guidance

I think if you work with your creditors, you might find them helpful as they’d rather see some sort of payments rather than default. I don’t know your age but maybe AARP can offer some help or advice?

Good Luck & I Hope you can resolve the issue expeditiously & in the least painful way possible. But do be honest with family & trusted friends so there are no expectations of gifts, outings etc

We have only 1  major credit card

On my shopping cards I always pay the full amount each time so that is at least a good thing Cat Very Happy

We always send more than the miniumum but still not getting ahead of this but hopefully will in the near future!

Going to try to send more each month, as much as possible

We have not used the card now and will not be using it.

Once this is paid off I think we will change to another credit card!

I called a few months ago to the credit card company to ask if they would help by lowering the interest, they said no
