It was the reason I posted here, not gonna lie. I think it's time to move on from that. It's only my opinion but I feel it's the beginning of the end for Qurate, those 400 or so employees are probably saddened at their dismissal but are lucky in a way to be out of the company before the whole thing comes apart.

That's interesting @Old faithful .  I registered because of the news, but my registration date is in line with when I created the account.  Your account creation indicates that you have at least been registered since April of 2022.  Perhaps that is when you began shopping here.

Re: Difference between being laid off vs fired

Being Laid off really is not an applicable to term to use in the workforce anymore.  In the past being laid off meant there was a good chance you would get re-called by the company to return to work.  Someone can be fired, terminated, let go, laid off or whatever even if it was through no fault of their own.

Being "Laid Off" means nothing more than you have a separation from your employer.

Curious to know how you have that information?

Re: Difference between being laid off vs fired

"Layoff" absolutely can mean permanent job loss.

It's "furlough" that often meant an employee could be brought back when conditions change.

@Old faithful

Then it is the end of Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Silicon Valley etc since ALL have had massive layoffs lately.

Macy's and other retailers closed dozens of stores!

Companies go through changes that don't neccessarily mean the 'end'.

JCP emerged from mismanagement and Bankruptcy back in 2020.

Macy's declared bankruptcy back in 1992....

They are still around.

@Old faithful

Are you referring to the original poster? If so, Reilley wrote in the first line it was from the web. I imagine she researched the definition.

Not at our company and not Most construction companies.

We are seasonal...so our employees are laid off during the winter.

Same with landscaping, plowing etc....jobs that can't be continued due to weather/seasonal conditions.

They are still listed on our payroll, we still pay their NYS disability.

We have no intent of permanent job loss, all weather related, and the majority are called back.  Often, for shorter terms, then laid off again.

Furlough and being laid off are the same thing, interchangeable terms.

Furlough is often used in the military.

No but thank you, a commenter to my post knows my registration date here, trying to figure out how that info is available to another poster?

IMO it’s inappropriate to expect someone to publicly disclose any of this information, even if there is not a non-disclosure agreement (which there likely is). NOT our business. 😉

Dan announced (when this first happened) on his Facebook page that he was terminated.  You make it everyone's business when you discuss your life on FB.

I have to disagree a little....I don't see anything wrong with posters wanting to express their views and opinions on Dan and Carolyn's departure.

I don't think they have to 'give it a rest', 'get over it,  or have 'ad nauseum' replied to them.

Many new posters have come for the first time to the boards to state their views on the layoffs...we all have that right.

I agree with you @RespectLife .  Some posters don't visit this board everyday.  Nothing wrong with these posters asking questions.   Why run them off?  Too many board police.
