Re: Did you have a class in school, that you had to take, that really was a waste of time?

@rockygems123 @fairydogmother

Loved Latin ( 3 years in high school and another 3 in college ).  Probably why I majored in Romance Languages although at home my parents said we will not speak Italian here.  Got my Masters in French Literature and went out to an corporate executive career, entrepreneur / consultant on management skills and career search, and even an adjunct professor on Leadership at my college.

The ability to write clearly and confidence in speaking ( no I never used those languages I studied per se ) made all the difference.

The one Dreaded course required for the MA degree was linguistics.  It was a true waste of time, $ and my patience but it was a requirement.  Yes, I got an A but it taught me to persevere.

Loved algebra and the subsequent courses: Plane Geometry, Solid Geometry, Quartic Equations, Trigonometry.  As for the last 3 in that series: I have no idea now.  Back then it was a matter of sheer competition with the guys in my high school class: I won !

The class I found useless was Typing in the tenth grade.  Not that it was a useless endeavor but our typing teacher was the head football coach.  He only bothered with 2 students, both senior football players, knew no one's name and was hardly ever in class.  Eveyone just fooled around.  You had to learn on your own.  The last day of school, some of the guys threw typewriters out the window.  Some of the girls would take turns playing teacher.  It was bizarre and to boot, the football team was not very good.  I think the coach/teacher was fired after that year.

Girls field hockey...dumbest sport ever.  Ugh.

@cindyNC  Boy, I agree about Home Ec.  I was an honor student, high rated in my class, but I got an incomplete in Home Ec.  I hated it and I don't cook and don't sew.  I can sew a hem if I need to, but always chose to go to a tailor as they do a much better job and I still hate to sew.

Thank goodness DH is a good cook and doesn't mind doing it and we eat out often also.  Looking at uncooked food is very unappealing to me and I don't have an appetite for it if I messed with it raw.

I don't think I've ever had a class from elementary through college that I thought was a waste of time.

Actually, I think home economics was a waste.....basically sewing and cooking.

The class that I ended up using the most from was 11th grade Algebra........and funny part is that I'm friends w/the teacher on FB. Small rural school with 107 in my graduating class. Never realized it at the time, but she wasn't much older than me.

@cindyNC

Same here.

In our Home Ec classes we had to make an apron with a plastic circular "waist band"  ...  and cook scrambled eggs in a double boiler!

Both were ridiculous.

I loved Latin, got an A, and it served me well in my medical career 😊

For me it was gym, geography and history.  Our history classes were just memorizing dates and names but never the why on thongs that happened.  Geography was nonexsistant except drawing the shape of a country and gluing rice on a copy of the area's shape but not where anything actually was in relationship to the rest of the world!!
