Have a Smithfield in the freezer as I type.............
@fthunt Enlarge your screen. It's a lot to expect everyone who posts a comment to remember to change their font size all the time.

Are you really going to bicker over font size....really???
@GoneButNotForgotten if you're addressing me, nobody is bickering. It's much easier to be self reliant than to require an entire group to accommodate a single individual.

As you said, "The Chinese purchased Smithfield so they could import US pork. It seems like a positive to balance trade." Right on!
Except that China (the country) does NOT own or even operate Smithfield. A Chinese entrepreneurial company bought it. It's operated by American workers here.
A few years ago, I posted a number of facts about Smithfield's ownership of many brand names sold in every grocery store. It's hard to pick up many well-known brands if you just want to hate Smithfield, so folks should do their own research on which company owns what.
I also long ago posted the reason that Smithfield was desired by a Chinese owner and why Smithfield actually sold to that owner. (Largely because it needed to for financial reasons.)
The claim that U.S. meat is shipped overseas and shipped back to the U.S. defies common sense. Meat produced right here is expensive enough without surviving an expensive round trip overseas.
@novamc1 That's probably WHY it's so expensive now

Does it bother anybody that China owns Smithfield and with all the comments about what they’re putting in the meats I just wonder why anyone sells them~~~~~~~~~
@Hi @SunnysMom
Yeah.
It bothers me that soooo much of USA's Commerce, Capitalism & inordinate greed relies so incredibly heavily on China for parts, whole, labor or assembly.
I find it to be incredibly trepidatious for USA to rely so heavily on a country that steals from us, flagrantly spies on us, taunts our protective military, poisons our products, requires animal testing, and slaves, starves their labor. And is constantly nipping at our heels to eclipse USA, to become the #1 reliant competitor in the USA, as well as other countries in the World.
Yeah, it bothers me.
@JoyFilled Warrior Very well said! Agree 100%...

Budweiser
Popsicle
Good Humor
7-Eleven
French's
Purina
Vaseline
Hellman's
There are many more.
Almost all cosmetics and drugs, including RX drugs and medical supplies are made in China.
It is concerning, but still continues. Scary stuff.
@Carmie Thanks. Is there a website or link that lists more foreign-owned American business information?

My sister bought some Smithfield link breakfast sausage and it was the grossest thing ever. By the time it cooked up, the links we're half their original size. It looked like nothing but fat so wondered any she bought it in the first place. I declined when she offered me some.
