I don't eat most canned vegetables or fruit. I do use black beans, chili beans, and diced tomatoes. Price tells me what brands I buy.
Fresh is always my go-to but tariffs are increasing their prices. There are some lines of frozen vegetables that don't have preservatives or additives that I like.
I had shopped at a certain chain for decades and was even employed for a few years after retiring. I don't buy much from them anymore unless it's a very good sale. I can go to their competition and save anywhere from $1 to $3 PER ITEM.

My mother bought us Del Monte when I was a kid. Always had them in our cabinets.
But as an adult I've much preferred frozen vegetables. Frozen retains the nutrients the best. I haven't bought canned in decades.

we usually buy green giant , sometimes del monte, have both in the pantry right now . I do prefer green giant though, Less water in the can so veggies more crisp I find. Whenever possible I like to buy fresh or risen in the microwave bags . For canned tomatoes Cora. In the summer months make my own with tomatoes from my brother and sister in laws garden. They grow San Mariano tomatoes ! Go to the Farmers markets in our area too .

@tiny 2 You are right. I like statistics that support what I do and I am not alone in making changes. On my early morning news there was a whole report on the nationwide switch to store brands for many kinds of non-perishables.
I'm sorry Del Monte has to file, but I'm not surprised. Costco where I had been able to order sleeves of fruit single portions so that I'd always have background fruit in the house lost availability of them. Now I know it was probably not their choice.
We who think QVC doesn't live up to all their deliveries might investigate to see where the problem lies. Supply and demand seem to move in and out of balance with no warning very often.

There have been several news stories about this subject lately.
People haven't stopped buying, but they're buying down in all areas, not just food. They're looking for less expensive alternatives.

Del Monte has not been my preferred brand for quite a few years now. I don't buy their fruits, and it's a last choice brand in canned goods.
I have no problem with canned food. I often throw in a can of mixed veggies to some leftovers for soup. I use canned black beans and corn for a salad, beans as a source of fiber in lots of things. Canned Kirkland chicken breast (rinse the salty brine off), etc.
I just don't think Del Monte is very good now, and choose other brands (organic if I can get it) first. I am shocked, but when I think about it not surprised. I think the brand has gotten stale.

Ten thousand creditors? There are ten thousand banks/others loaning money to a company? Yikes! At what point do you stop borrowing money?

I cannot even remember the last time I bought a canned Del Monte item. Our local Brookshire's store brand and Mrs. Holmes is what I buy. But it is a shame, I too grew up on Del Monte and so did my son.

I don't usually buy canned goods. I buy fresh or frozen. I feel bad for any company that needs to file bankruptcy.

Sorry to hear this as I hate for any company to go under. Growing up, DelMonte was always considered one of the Big 3....along with Green Giant and Libby's. I also don't buy much in the way of canned, but occasionally for our dreaded hurricane seasons we keep a few in our pantry. Also, when there are food drives, some of the items requested are canned.
