If I eat vegetables, it's often canned. I don't like to cook. I also eat a lot of "canned" pineapple. They're actually in little plastic cups, but same idea. While it might not be Del Monte, it won't be my store's brand. I accidentally got Publix pineapple once and immediately noticed in the taste. I actually had to check the garbage for the packaging to find out I was using the store brand.

I looked up when the company was first started, it was in 1886 with coffee and in 1892 came canned peaches. It has been such a long standing brand on the grocery shelves.

I eat organic canned green beans a lot, more potassium. I like to eat them cold in can for snack, lol. There is often a misconception about canned veggies. With fresh, you have the time they sit after picking, shipping, and then sitting on produce shelf. Many veggies and some fruits loose vitamins. Frozen they are okay, as they are frozen in a fresh state after blanching. With canned, they go right from field to cannery, dumped, sorted, blanched and canned. I have heard canned veggies may contain more vitamins than fresh . In,ess you are lucky and eat farm to table. Sometimes there isn't quite the fiber, in canned and of course the flavor and texture can change. But for so many canned foods are easy to store for a long time. No refrigeration

Even though 'fresh' might be 'best, but canned veggies and fruits sure do come in handy.
Easy to store and they don't take up any space in our freezers.
And, when the power is out, our canned veggies and fruit are still in good shape.
I believe those items are cooked and immediately sealed in cans. Or something similar.
I happen to like canned veggies and canned fruit. I like the flavor and consistency.
Especially canned spinach. Yum!

We can read the 135 years history of Del Monte foods on their website.
I just Google searched and haven't had time to read it; and it's probably very interesting.

@Bird mama. I was also raised on Del Monte and still eat lots of canned veggies. There are some thing I prefer canned, plus I don't have a lot of freezer space.

Oh now this is not ok.
They have the best canned vegetables that taste better than any others I've tried.
My mother only bought them too.

This is shocking news and like others, I was raised on Del Monte canned vegetables. Right now in my pantry I have their carrots, and two different type string beans - regular cut and French cut with Roasted Garlic which we love. I also used to buy their asparagus spears, but haven't seen them available in months. Next time I go food shopping, I will stock up on their veggies and fruit cups. I also buy College Inn broth (carton and can) and Contadina products. It seems like everything from my youth is disappearing. Del Monte is one company I thought would be around forever.

The company I worked for was bought out by its major competitor. I still get my pension.
