I watched the show and I loved it. She really kept the real meaning of Christmas. I had saw an interview with her on utube I think and she sung circle of love and talked about her mom. 

There was also an all Dolly Christmas movie night on CMT this past Saturday night.  I watched coat of many colors and Circle of love . They also had steel magnolias and others I didn't watch. 

I thought Jennifer Nettles did a great job playing her mother in both movies.  Jennifer is from the band Sugar Land but I didn't know she also was an actress. I kept thinking I know this women, so I googled it to see if I was right, so yep I was.

If they do a replay these movies they are worth a watch if you haven't saw them.   I would watch both again.

She was perfect for the role in Steel Magnolias.

I like Dolly I think she's good hearted, smart, and talented, enjoyed her in the movie 9 to 5 too...... she even contributed towards one of the vaccines, where are all these other celebrities with their contributions that say they care "so much".....

P.S. Everyone's different, I could never stand the Bee Gees..

I would agree that Whitney's version is great...but it has a different feel to me.   The power of her voice is amazing...she's really belting it out.

But, I find Dolly's version speaks to my heart more.

One of my favorite "guilty pleasure" movies is "The Bodyguard."

ITA with you about the song.  Whitney was an AMAZING artist, but when Dolly sings the song it's magical.   I've seen 'Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' numerous times and always love when she does that song in the end.

In a recent interview Dolly mentioned that her favorite, of the songs she's written, is 'Coat of Many Colors'.   I love that, as it's also my favorite.  Granted I cry like a baby every time I hear it and, although I know all the words, I'm hard-pressed to actually be able to sing along.  But it's just the beauty of the message that fills my heart.   One thing for me with that song was the love of her mother.  I never had that and I'm so glad that there are so many people, including her, who have been so lucky to have a mother who loved them so much.

@chickenbutt, since you like the song so much, have you seen the movie Coat of Many Colors about Dolly?  You might really enjoy it if you haven't.

Hugs to you, just so very sorry for what you experienced with your mother.  I sure wish things had been different for you.  But you turned out very well despite those circumstances and look what joy you have brought to this board over the years!

I just watched the special and, of course, when she did that song I fell apart.  Well, actually, I fell apart before the song when she was talking about her mother.

I have not seen that movie.   Is it on Netflix?   I should see if, if I can handle it.    For whatever combination of reasons, it just breaks me into a million pieces to even think about that song!   You have to know that I seldom cry because I absolutely HATE crying (more childhood abuse reasons for that).  So, it takes something major or anything about animals being hurt for me to fall apart like that.

Seriously, thank You so very much for your kind thoughts.  You have no idea what it can mean for somebody who has pounded into them what a worthless pos they are and you grow up believing it to some degree.  I just want to be a decent person and not leave any bad marks like she has left on me.    If I can make somebody else smile it gives me great joy!

Dolly is a good woman and worked hard, landing as a veritable superstar. I admire and respect her very much. That said, I didn't care for the Christmas special. As I'd suspected, to me, it was not particularly cheery and while Dolly's message is almost always uplifting, the special was a bit too dour and no frills for me at this point in time. I'd also add that anyone who's followed Dolly at all is well aware of her hard early years and probably doesn't need to hear the story over and over again.
