I believe it depends on the purpose of your phone and/or computer.

When you/others imply ‘out of touch’ does that mean you would have

no connection to any news? Like newspapers, TV, etc? Zero electronics?

For those who imply it would be easy since their phone is turned off,

would that mean no social interaction at all? Just you & the crickets.

Zero 911 access.

See where I’m going?

A phone/computer is more than an object.

It’s your radio when you want to get the weather report.

It’s your book when you want to read your Kindle.

It’s a deck of cards when you want to play solitaire.

It’s my bank account when I want to pay a bill.

It’s your turntable when you want to listen to music.

ITA, @house_cat!  It’s a high 10 on my list!

When I visit my mom out in the little farm town in the Midwest,

we have v.e.r.y limited internet, and very few people,

so yes...I kinda/sorta know what it’s like to ‘unplug’ to a certain level..

but my device is a book I can read, so I would have to have it.

My phone is none of those things listed. And my PC is not used for most of those things either.

I still turn on a radio for music and weather.

I only read real books.

Games and cards are played with....games and cards.

And I never do banking or bill paying online.

Not only could I, but I do it all the time.  I find it more than ridiculous to see people at lunch with others, at dinner tables, in grocery stores, etc. to have the need to be on the phone.

Pretentious!

Please spare me all the prostestations about having to be in contact with hundreds of others - we certainly managed in the old days to spend hours without a phone attached to our ears.

Most of the overheard conversations (please lower your voices!) are about nothing at all.

yes true but then there were no cellphones then

Yes!  Very comfortable. (As long as I have enough food and books; my drawing and painting things would be nice too)

Where’s the cabin?  As far away from people as possible please!

I'm  not a social fanatic, in fact just closed my Facebook account and my Facebook Messenger application.  But I am fascinated by "real time" like computers and iPhones.  I love having instant answers to my research questions, love not having to find a telephone booth in order to phone someone and I have a cherished library of books in my phone and iPad .....but yes, I could leave it all behind for a week or two (maybe a 5 or 6 on the scale for do-ability).... but I'd leave, enjoy myself knowing full well I'd be getting my phone and computer back again when I got back!!

Re: Could you, would you unplug?

It wouldn't bother me at all.  I like to go on cruises and when I do, I competely disconnect from the time I step on board until returning home.  No phone and no internet. I go on vacation to get away from it all.

Re: Could you, would you unplug?

I could definitely go without both for a week or longer if I had to. I wish you didn't need a computer, but it's so handy for info. I like to have the cell for emergencies.

Re: Could you, would you unplug?

I could easily do it if my family was with me.

But if was just me on vacation, I need the lifeline to my kids & grandkids.

I know many people who go on long cruises (more than a weekend) and their cell phones don't work on the ship.   Doesn't seem to bother them.

If my family was with me - yes.  And we have, when there was no cell service.  We did fine, yet we each still missed being able to do things on our smart phones (buy movie tickets online, dinner reservations, check weather and traffic, or what facilities were available before an outing, etc.)

However, I use my cell phone for so much more though, so many time saving tasks. The technology saves me a tremendous amount of time.
