Kittymom, that is the best story!!!!! What a great way to learn to make dumplings. I love chicken & dumplings, but never made them because for some reason my daddy didn't like them. I have not perfected them, but I like them lots.

Hey Jules, it's all really funny now but not so funny at the time! Your story about your Mom and Dad and the chicken was so sweet. I can tell you the really easy way I make chicken and dumplings if you're interested - it's definitely not from any cookbook!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Any one remember the I Love Lucy show when she baked bread for the first time...used to much yeast and when she opened he oven door the bread grew so big it pinned her against the wall opposite the oven. I laughed so hard.

oH YEAH. That was a great episode. I also loved the one where Ricky and Fred were cooking. They scoured the chickens with soap powder and they exploded in the pressure cooker and landed on the ceiling. Those were great old shows. The rice overflowing was about like my beans that I made in the crock pot.

When I was about 10 years old I decided to make my dad a chocolate birthday cake with white icing with red roses on it. I got the cake iced and was ready for the roses but discovered we had no red food coloring. I looked through the pantry but the only red thing I saw was a can of beets. I used the beet juice to color my red roses. They became big runny blobs. No one said a word about the strange decorations or their flavor.

Not so much a disaster as "duh". I was making those au gratin potatoes from the box. I started reading the directions on the back, and the first step said to put the potato slices in a dish. I was thinking, "W T H they don't give you a clue as to how many potatoes to use?" So I peeled and so carefully thinly sliced a bunch of potatoes, and THEN I opened the box. I was so mad I dumped my potatoes in the garbage, and my husband said, "Since you had them all ready, why didn't you use the real potatoes?" Double duh.

I baked my daughter's Birthday cake and put it the fridge till the party started,well that cake just terrible kids were making faces and gagging.Later that night I noticed a dill pickle jar had tipped and had apparently slowly dripped pickle juice into her cake.
