Controversial and off topic threads....

The best treads are controversial and off topic....such a shame that they are not allowed.

@June222,

Maybe they need to add another forum just for such things.. then everyone can have it..  you know how nasty and personal those controversial theads can become...  as far as off topic threads, LOL I love it when they go in different directions but are still on topic..  make sense?

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

I agree, but it's really hard to keep threads ON topic.  The very nature of human conversation is to ebb and flow, and conversations tend to gravitate one way and then the other.  I agree that they are the most interesting and stimulating threads to participate in.

What really throws threads off the rails is the posters that come in, not to discuss the topic at hand, but to attack the posters that have differing opinions.  I imagine that the webmasters recognize this and feel that it's safer to just close the thread than take the chance.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

I know this has been said a hundred times, but they DID have a forum like that and it was quite hideous.  They don't want that on their retail site and that is understandable.

There are a million other boards in internetland, many for controversial topics specifically.

I think the mistake they made here was giving an inch.   There are those for whom if you give them an inch they'll take a mile.  Because of that, there cannot be civilized conversations about pretty much anything, especially subjects peripheral to controversialities.

I know that if I come across another Duggar or Kardashian thread, I will definitely become uncivilized! :-) :-)

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

Not a shame in my mind, but what is a shame is that on the sites where those topics are allowed, I have never once read through a htread without finding foul language, name-calling, etc.

To me, those posters are counterparts to those who go to hockey games hoping to see players bleed, lose their teeth, etc.  They're not people I care to associate with.

I do have some wider thoughts, but I'm quite certain those thoughts would lead to a poof and I'll keep them for other times and other places.

Personally I don't agree they are the best threads.

I think the best thread is  Schmoo, tough kitty fighter.  Not controversial and filled with love and caring.

I agree with this. I spend time on many forums and social sites and have those discussions elsewhere. QVC does not to be the be-all, end-all place for me to discuss things, nor do I want it to be. I talk about political and current events in so many places and with so many people that it's nice to have one space free of that.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

Even when one tries not to be controversial, others come in to sink the thread, seems you can only talk about fluff topic's.

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.
