It's become a society of being judged on quantity not quality.
No wonder so many people have mental health issues, suicide is rampant and girls and boys deal with body image issues daily.
It's a society of hate, judging and bullying.
So, if I wrote a few great posts that helped people but I was only on the first rung of the ladder, does that mean I'm not as important here? Or maybe someone who is on here 24/7 writing posts on the highest rung does nothing but bullies and harasses other posters, but they are exalted to be a "super" contributor. It's all a game!
I don't consider posting on a chat board as adding to my 'importance'.
I think you're very important, sorry you don't feel that way.
I agree with you, @deepwaterdotter. Posting with anonymous nicknames doesn't make any of us more or less "important."
And I'd add that we're all "important" in the scheme of things. But this silly "label" has nothing to do with it, and I confess to being perplexed as to the reason anyone cares so passionately about it.
If we assign weight to these meaningless words... if we let it annoy us... seems to me we've chosen to allow them to bother us.

Ranks are used to indicate the number, quality, and impact of your posts. As you spend more time in the community participating, your ranking level will progress.
The Community has a distinct set of ranking ladders which match your natural behavioral tendencies to either collect, contribute, or advise within the threads.
A community member starts as a “New Member” and depending on how often you visit and what you contribute will move through the following order."
That seems odd to me that you go from occasional contributor to just contributor, seems it should be the other way around and the esteemed, honored acclaimed and exalted is way over the top especially when some of the meanest stuff sometimes comes from one of those nics.

@truffle Yep! I've noticed a lot of sharp tongues of those on the top of the ladder so to speak...
I can only guess that since they made it to the top/near top they feel they have earned the right to say anything they darn please. Unfortunately, no points off or demotion for poor/mean/snarky posts...

Has anyone seen a poster actually ranked as Exalted? Something about that title really rankles me -- lol.

@tansy, I looked at one of the prolific picture posters (gotta love that alliteration!
) who has over 40,000 posts -- if it's true it's only based on post counts, I'm thinking the software on this forum stops with "Honored." Eventually, everyone can be "Honored" and then maybe we can all be outraged about something else...

There are a few posters here who actually got very upset when the boards changed and they lost a couple thousand of their posts. They complained about it too. That's something I just will never understand. To me, it means that all they do all day long is sit and post. I wouldn't be bragging about that.
I can understand people who physically are unable to do much at home, but there is "reading" "writing" "television" etc......even sitting outside in the sun (or shade) and looking at the sky, sometimes, is more exciting than posting all day long. JMO of course.

This is my entertainment. I have no shame in my (was high) post count.

@missy1 I have no shame in that regard either...been posting since 2007 and had over 10,000 posts til they changed the system...

I really don't get why we need "names" for our status on here. When they changed the forum this time I noticed not only did they take posts away from me so my count was lower but they totally made up the date when I joined! Many forums that had lots of activity have gotten much quieter, especially Ripka. I used to post much more frequently but I admit I really don't enjoy it as much with all the changes.
